View Full Version : Issues swapping NA6CE and NA8C seatbelts

I have a pair of red 1992-93 Eunos Roadster S-Limited (NA6CE) seatbelts which I would like to install in my 1993 Mazda Mx-5 (NA8C) but they don't fit.

When I push the tongue into the buckle they don't clamp together at all.

The NA6CE has a different buckle design to the later models. On the NA6CE the buckle bolts to the tunnel but on the NA8C it bolts to the seat rail.

So what I've been thinking is, can I swap seat rails and seatbelts between my 1991 NA6CE and my 1993 NA8C?

And does the 1993 NA8C have the cage nuts in the floor to fit the earlier seatbelt design?

Any ideas?

you have to match NA6 belts to NA6 receivers, and NA8 belts to NA8 receivers. Otherwise they won't lock.

You should be able to get NA6 receivers and mount them to the transmission tunnel, there is a factory threaded screw hole located there.

Is that what you are asking?

Yes. That's what I am asking.
The threaded hole is there on the NA8?
Excellent news.
The red carpet I have is to match the belts so it will suit NA6 receivers.
I'll just have to obtain some NA6 receivers then.
I may need to use NA6 seat rails too, as they appear different.

I've honestly never had a problem with seat belts and receivers in all my years with Miatas. I've run both NA6 and NA8 receivers on cars. Never had a problem with the belt latching. I didn't even know it was a possible problem until a few years ago when threads like this started popping up.

I'm not saying that these threads are wrong. Maybe I've just had very good luck? But I've never had a receiver not latch.

Combos I've personally tried. All of these worked.

NA8 belt - NA8 receiver (mounted to the seat)
NA8 belt - NA6 receiver (mounted to the trans tunnel)
NB belt - NA8 receiver (mounted on the seat)
NB belt - NA6 receiver (on the tunnel)

However, I've never owned a Miata with the NA6 belt. And, again, mine is a only sample size of one owner.

The NA6 has a longer reach than the NA8 version, and the center locking hole is also bigger on the NA6.

My guess is that the NA8 cannot get back far enough to reach the locking spot on the NA6 belt receiver .

Left is from my 1996 NA8 (Black Belt) and on the Right is from my 1993 NA6 (Red Belt)

I used an NA6 receiver on my 97 for about 3 years while I ran a race seat in CSP trim. It worked like a charm. Honest. I'm not imagining it.

Maybe its just certain years? Or maybe just the red belts? I don't have a black NA6 Belt to show against these

looks the same alright. Don't know then, they look different and I can tell you that mine did not interchange when using the NA6 "Receivers"

I just removed the receiver from my NA6 and tried it with the NA8 belt. It fitted.

So it would appear that:

All Mx-5 belts fit into NA6 receivers.
Only NA8 onwards belts fit into NA8 receivers

What I thought were different rails is actually the receiver bracket. The seat rails should be fine.

Thanks very much for your help with this everyone.
It's people like you that make this the best Mx-5 site on the internet.:)

I'm using 93LE belts in 2005 receivers. Clicks in there perfectly from what I can tell.
