So I have 97 STO Miata and im going to be ripping out the auto trans in it. Im pretty much set on using a manual transmission from a 91 model and i need to know what part i may need for the swap. I see the auto trans has a separate control unit for it so I'm assuming I can use my Ecu still. The clutch and brake pedal assembly should fit from a 91 to a 97 right? And also do I have to use the PPF from the 91 or should the one from the 97 fit ok?

Thanks!

Maybe this (http://www.miata.net/garage/auto_2_5_speed.html) will help.

You can use a 94-97 5-speed also; and the 94-97 5-speed transmission were improved on over the 90-93 transmissions.

Has anyone figured out how to eliminate th CEL?

Depends on which CEL code you are looking to get rid of...there are a couple...one is for the auto trans control unit...the other is for the clutch switch...for the control unit, there is one wire to the ECU that needs to be grounded...the Haynes manual has the wiring diagram...do not remember right off which wire it is...but it is labeled in the diagram Manual trans/auto trans...

As for the clutch switch/neutral safety switch...have not figured that one out yet

We did this swap on a Clubmember car a while back and grounding that wire got rid of one code...but not the other
