2016 is the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Nutmeg Miata Club....

Way back in January, at the planning meeting, there was a proposal put forth that the Nutmeg Club ,host a wizbangreallybigshoo event to mark that anniversary. Well...here are the dates

JULY 14-17, 2016

Regional event...125 cars max..3 days..multiple runs going on simultaneously...autoX and laps at Lime Rock. ..Roller Coaster Run..Poker Runs..East..West..North..all the good places...etc..etc..

That number is directly to the front desk. There is a block of rooms ready and waiting to be booked just for this event in the name of the Nutmeg Miata Club.

Start planning now....but..the actual registration form for all the rides, runs, and activities, and the timeline for each, is still a work in progress and will not be ready for a while...so please do not ask about that yet.

I can guarantee that you will have OPTIONS as to where you want to go...how much you want to drive..self paced and guided... We will show you some pretty obscure little roads out in the middle of nowhere that will be a joy to drive...and bring you to very scenic area in multiple sections of the state. You WILL drive your car over the 3 days...starting on Thursday afternoon...and Friday...and Saturday.

Just a little more info...

Rides are being planned...logistics being worked on...people from all over are booking rooms...

Canada...North Carolina..Florida...Pennsylvania...South Carolina...Long island...NY...

All hotel guests will be GUARANTEED ENTRY to all activities...so plan now to be there at the hotel Thursday afternoon for the first ride...

This is a DRIVING event...lots of driving...

You will have choices...East..west..escorted/guided or self paced Poker Run...each day...

And an opportunity to have some real fun at LIME ROCK PARK...open autoX...not the short loops, but the full combined course...followed by laps on the big track....no helmet required...

Then on Saturday the more adventuresome will have the opportunity to take in the Roller Coaster Run...3 parks..3 coasters..one day...with interesting roads in between...this one will be limited availability...probably 25 cars..not sure yet

And ending with a dinner back at the hotel on Saturday evening...with awards...trophies..auction..raffle...etc..etc..

So...this is a really big...no BS event...plan on being there!!

ok folks..here is the latest news from the hotel


there are 5 King rooms remaining for this event...for Thursday-Saturday only

If you plan on arriving on wednesday...or staying over on sunday..you must book a double room. this is most likely what caused the glitch in the online reservation system over the weekend.

Additionally...there are only 20 double rooms remaining on top of the 5 King rooms

so it looks like we are going to be fully subscribed very soon!!

ok folks...we reached our limit...

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED!!

With the following caveat...the registration forms will be going out this week to a few beta testers...selected from the registered hotel guests...to make sure that there are NO questions about the registration. then the form will go out, via email, to the remainder of the registered hotel guests.

The hotel will start a waiting list...as of noon today...in case there are cancellations...of which we have already had a few...so there remains a possibility that you still may get in at a later date if you are on the waiting list.

There seems to be a little bit of a disconnect between the number of registrations we have had returned with payment for the event and the number of actual reservations made at the hotel.

Update...part 2

With a goodly number of people showing up on Wednesday...the opportunity for exploring on Thursday is something that I am sure a lot of folks will want to do.

We have pre-planned routes in hand, that are NOT part of Friday and Saturday routes. Rides that our Club has used in the past, and are in slightly different areas than what we will be using for this event. SSoooo...if you want to go for a ride on thursday during the day...those routes will be available once you get to the hotel. Get a group together and go out and have a ball...while the rest of us got absolutely bonkers with all the thursday arrivals. We MIGHT be able to have a few Clubmembers available to go along...but nothing guaranteed for Thursday...that will depend on volunteer availability..and no specific time for departure at this time. still a work in progress

Thursday evening reception...this will run from 6-11 in one of the function rooms at the hotel. there will be a cash bar and light snacks spread out during the evening...

PINEWOOD DERBY!!!

(google it if you are without knowledge)

Having been involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for most of the last 30 years, one of the best activities for kids...and adults...has been Pinewood Derby. Being the car guy in my sons' cub scout Pack back in the day...we kinda took Pinewood Derby to a new level...and had a ball doing it. Over the years myself and a few other adults have done Adult Night derbies as fundraisers for various units...and when you get a bunch of grownups in a big room, with NO KIDS..and a few cocktails, things get pretty fun in a good sort of way.

The best part?...I already have about 75 cars pre built and ready to go...aluminum 4 lane track and electronic timing...

I am SURE that a bunch of you folks out there have either kids..or grandkids...that have done this and might even have a car to bring...great...bring it on!! Its not like it will take up much room in a Miata...it will fit in the center console or door pocket!!

yes...we will ask for a small donation ...at the event when you pick your car...to cover costs of trophies ...

Timeline for this will be 6-7 car picking and registration...racing will start promptly at 7...should be over by 9...plenty of time for you to get your beauty sleep and get ready for Friday rides

well folks...I guess it's time for an update...the following is how I responded to someone that is attending...an overview of how things are planned...specific times will be nailed down and published in the booklet that everyone will receive at registration


Thursday is pretty loose...registration...casual rides...pre-planned route instructions will be on hand and whatever floats your boat...I believe Bruce will be 'taking a group' for a ride...

thursday evening meet/greet at the hotel...there will be light snacks..starting at 6...NOT DINNER...and from 7-9 a Pinewood Derby race in the function room at the hotel...cash bar

Friday early start..out by 8...to the start points...then ride..then lunch on the road (included)..then depending on what you chose..up to Lime rock for either autoX or parade laps..or both..dinner off site in Burlington, CT (included)...about 1/2 way between Lime Rock and the hotel (convenient, eh?)..cash bar....over 1/2 the cars will be at LRP.....35 minute ride from dinner back to hotel


so you will be out ALL DAY on Friday...

More of the same on saturday..depart hotel about 8 to the start points...rides...lunch..then make way back to hotel...a bit of down time..cocktail hour at 6...dinner at 7..cash bar..(notice the recurring theme here?)

dress is casual..casual..comfortable..you will be receiving a polo shirt upon arrival...along with other goodies...
