Tokyo Auto Salon 2016 Coverage by REV9 Autosport

Hi everyone,

I've been visiting the TAS2016 (Tokyo Auto Salon) this week-end and thought some of you might enjoy the diversity of new parts that just came on the market for the ND Roadster!

Many parts come from existing and popular brands while some other come from brands that just jumped into the ND market! It's going to be an existing year. It seems like I'll have to add a bunch of products to the website and I'm really not sure where to begin... we'll see how it goes!

I'll post on this thread every now and then. There's a lot of pictures to process and the ones shown on Facebook are just a tiny part of what I'll show :thumbs:

First Stop : Garage Vary

Garage Vary did a comeback at Tokyo Auto Salon for 2016 and really hasn’t got unnoticed. Many said it was the best ND MX-5 shown in the whole show.

Not really a fan of the rear or the fenders, but that front end! GORGEOUS! The lip and the hood look sweet!

Second Stop : DAMD

DAMD has been always active in the Mazda and Miata scene, but they had been somewhat low profile in the last years. Only connoisseurs know about this brand who has released quite a lot of very nice and top quality aftermarket parts for decades. Now, they are back with a super nice ND MX-5 Shop Car!

Not that it matters much...but that low rear spoiler/wing would make putting stuff in and taking stuff out of the trunk a pain. But yeah...still want an ND.

Third Stop : KUHL Racing

KUHL Racing may sound new to many Roadster enthusiasts, but the company has been around for a while. They won Tokyo Auto Salon 2014’s best car of the show with their awesome hand-painted/engraved Nissan R35 GT-R. Now, they came back with a pretty aggressive Miata body kit! I have to apologise for the dark pictures, but the car was under a big neon spot, there was a huge crowd and taking good pictures was next to impossible.

Fourth Stop : Cabana

Cabana is a very new brand in the tuning scene. They have not been left unnoticed with their British Racing Green ND MX-5. They actually are a company that makes boxers. That makes them very good at sewing products and that is why they have released many leather interior parts for the ND Roadster.

Fifth Stop : Okuyama Carbing

Carbing has been developing products for the Miata since it was released in Japan. They pride themselves as selling some of the most rigid chassis stiffening products on the market that are used by many very competitive Japanese tuners.

Sixth Stop : Leg Sport

Leg Sport is a shop located near Hiroshima in Japan, they have always been closely working with many Mazda vehicles. They are well known for their RX-7 & RX-8 parts, but also been known lately for their Toyota 86 and Mazda Roadsters. Many pictures of their demo car have been floating on the internet, but they changed the exterior color for Tokyo Auto Salon for a beautiful Mariner Blue wrap.

Edit: Saw Max's post that it was wrapped Mariner Blue. I really like the Smurf color on the ND.

R-Spec is very popular in Japan for their TV conversion kits in which you can watch TV while driving (safe, huh!). They decided to build a demo ND MX-5 for the Tokyo Auto Salon and test prototype of new products they could bring on the market.

Fujitsubo is well known for their very high quality (and affordable) exhaust systems and manifolds/headers suited for most Japanese vehicles. For the ND (2016+) Miata development, they made a collaboration with Ken Style so that the first company makes the exhaust components and second company produces aerodynamics.

Autoexe has been tuning Mazda vehicles for decades. They did such a good job at doing it that they also are factory options offered at Japanese dealers (sold next to Mazdaspeed products). They just released their ND Demo Car and have been making A LOT of products for it, which is pretty great!

10th Stop : TRA Kyoto

TRUST is a legendary shop that has been tuning many Japanese vehicles for a while. Since recent years, they are associated with TRA Kyoto (Rocket Bunny maker) and we all expected them to release a ND Demo Car. They did great, it is pretty sick looking and WIDE.

Aimgain is a relatively new aerodynamics company from Japan. They are getting very popular due to their extreme designs that pushes the limits of the vehicles!

13th Stop : RK Design

RK Design is a tuner out of the ordinary. They really emphasize on making some unique cars and they do it beautifully. For example, one of their other vehicle was a left hand drive Subaru BRZ (for a Japanese customer) which is really unique in the country.

14th Stop : Kansai Service

Kansai Service is also known as HKS Kansai but uses this name since just a few years. They are pretty much one of the biggest HKS dealers in Japan and produce their very own parts for platforms that they like to work on. We’re happy to see that they built a pretty cool ND Demo Car!

15th Stop : Ducks Garden

17th Stop : Knight Sports

Knight Sports is a very famous Rotary Engine tuner, but has also been tuning the NA Miata in the past. Since there are no more RX vehicles in Mazda lineup, they decided to switch their sports car division to work on the ND Roadster! It’s also important to mention that they tune a lot of CX-3 & CX-5, so they have a lot of experience in Skyactiv vehicles. Car is running some beautiful Advan RZ-II Wheels in 17”.

Here’s our final and last post about Tokyo Auto Salon 2016. This one is dedicated on the new model of wheels that would most likely fit NA, NB and/or ND applications (4x100) made by Enkei, 326POWER, Work Wheels, RAYS, Advan, Leon Hardiritt & Aimgain. We skipped the NC as the 5x114.3 wheels are very common and there are TONS of choices. Sorry NC owners, but you can always drop us a line and we’ll send you the nicest racing wheels for your application.
