I'm curious about clearances... the Wilwood BBK offered by some won't clear my 14" RS8 wheels...

Here's a little update guys

Pricing is still TBD.

The 1.8 BBK uses a 30-36 piston bore combination to work with the 1.8 OE Master Cylinder.
The 1.8 Sport kits use a 36-38 piston bore combination, due to the larger rear Sport brakes and Master cylinder.

Flagship kit: We will offer the ability to go up to the 1.8 Sport kit from any 1.6 or 1.8. This CAN include a Sport Master Cylinder, rear sport calipers, rear sport rotor, front StopTech BBK and SS lines and pads on all four corners. This kit has the deepest capability of all the BBKs we offer for NA/NB Miatas.
1.8 Sport BBK (Rotor, Caliper, Lines, Bracket)
1.8 Sport Master Cylinder (1.6 and 1.8 guys need this)
1.8 Sport OE rear rotors (1.6 and 1.8 guys need this)
1.8 Sport OE rear calipers (1.6 and 1.8 guys need this)
StopTech rear SS brake lines
Choice of Street ($) or Race pads ($$)

For the 1.8 BBK we CAN include Rear OE calipers for a 1.6 to 1.8 BBK upgrade. This would not need a different Master cylinder. This kit maximizes stopping power on the 1.8 platform.
1.8 BBK (Rotor, Caliper, Lines, Bracket)
Optional 1.8 OE Rear Calipers (1.6 guys need this)
Optional 1.8 rear Rotors (1.6 guys need this)
StopTech rear SS brake lines
Choice of Street ($) or Race pads ($$)

What rotor diameter?

- 280mm

Could you also list link for pad size specs, compound choices.

-Caliper is StopTech's ST42, so any pads made for this caliper can be purchased. However, StopTech will be recommending specific friction compounds based on application; street or race. The friction recommendations are based on test vehicle results and are designed to work with the piston sizing and master cylinder specified.

Race Pad compounds based on FMSI# DR22. SR33 compound front. 309 compound rear.

Street performance/Sport Brake Pads - StopTech's 309 compound for Sport is already available in the OE Miata pad shapes, covering the rear of the kits. It will also be offered in the DR22 pad shape, developed specifically for the front of the Miata BBK.

Pricing on the Stoptech BBK is here!!!

What's nice about this kit is you can buy a full kit or piece it together.

When you go to the Garage Star website you will see the first drop down. Sport and NonSport options. From there you can purchase a full kit or piece the kit by choosing your part and adding it to cart. For example if you have a 1994 Miata and you already have rear pads you can add the front BBK to the cart of you choose steel brake lines and a new master if needed. Once you added the parts you need the list of parts and total will be in your shopping cart. If you have any questions feel free to email or call us. sales@garagestar.com or 916-585-3137.

Thanks again Ken. Pics won't do justice on how gorgeous this set-up is. Comes complete (calipers, rotors, pads, bracket, mounting bolts and brake lines) and weighs under 15 lbs.

@— mx54life — Did you choose the Sport or Non-sport option? Can you post a few measurements in millimeters? Stoptech doesn't have a wheel fitment template for the ST-42 caliper. What is the width of the calipers? What is the diameter of the rotors and are they the Sport or Non-sport rotors?

This is the non-sport. I am waiting for the sports edition and my rears. I believe the calipers and the rotors are all the same dimension except that the sports have a bit bigger pistons.
I will confirm it when they arrive.

It's an impressive looking system but probably out of the price range of the average Miata owner.

I have a set of Wilwood BBK and for less than $200 price difference I opted for the Stoptech calipers as they are far more well built imho. They also do not require a brake proportioning valve.

If going for the full monte, what vacuum booster do you recommend users pair with the 1.8 Sport Master Cylinder?

See Some interesting brake information (tech!) (http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=363284) for some good technical discussion of the various OEM master cylinder and vacuum booster options.

Not a hundred sure but from what I have read in another forum the highly sought booster is the one that came from an 01-05 NB sports brake non-ABS.

Ok Gents and Ladies after much research I finally got the balls to take on this brake upgrade as my brakes really needing some attention. I elected to get this set-up simply for 2 reasons.......

1. OEM brake system is basically maintained. Master Cylinder for my 99 NB is kept the same thus no need for proportioning valve tweak. Parking brake is still kept intact. OEM reliability can be expected. All four corners have 11" rotors thus the same concept as the 01-05 NB's.

2. Built quality. I have dual piston calipers and rotors from Wilwood and in my untrained eyes Stoptech is hands down better built.

Oh Ken also offered discounted pricing (that was during initial introduction) so I was really forced to go for it LOL. Thanks Ken!!!

This kit is a complete bolt on kit. Nothing spared. Plus the tech support is awesome. And kudos to Ken and Jon B for the support during the install.

I would rate the difficulty level of this project as "moderate".

I would rate satisfaction level as "moderately insane" LOL
