Mazda and Isuzu enter Pick-up Truck Collaboration Agreement

HIROSHIMA and FUJISAWA Japan - Mazda Motor Corporation (hereafter “Mazda”) and
Isuzu Motors Limited (hereafter “Isuzu”) have reached a basic agreement on
next-generation pick-up truck collaboration, allowing Isuzu to enhance its product
competiveness and Mazda to strengthen its product line-up and maintain own-brand market
coverage.

Isuzu will produce next-generation pick-up trucks for Mazda, based on Isuzu’s pick-up truck
model.

Mazda and Isuzu have developed a collaborative relationship for more than 10 years, with
Isuzu producing for Mazda trucks for the Japanese market. This agreement reinforces the
continuous long-term relationship between Mazda and Isuzu.

Hmmm...I thought they used the same Canyon/Colorado chassis and some sheet metal. I believe they were used to test the new GM diesels overseas?

The bad note to this is that anything Isuzu has ever paired with in the NA market ( paired with. Not the ND and Mid heavy branded lines ) has tanked! Chevy Luv, Honda Passport, Amego and I forget the name of the high-cab mid-sized extra-cab pick-up (Do i get bonus-points for that many hyphens, properly used, in one sentence?)... The vehicles were built as cheaply as possible and the parts to replace them when they failed were hard to get and over-priced in the states. At best long wait times for them to be shipped from over-seas.

The only small Isuzu I have ever found interesting was the one from 'Mission to Mars' the Vehi-Cross.

I liked the original Rodeo and ended up buying both body styles of the Honda Passport when they were new. While not 'Honda' quality, I thought they held up very well, but then again, I was a maintenance freak.
