I'm thinking this year will be my first year to attend MATG in 11 years of ownership. As a newbie, does anyone have a good recommendations for places to stay? I'll likely have my truck and trailer since I'll be coming from MBTG @ AMP. Look forward to meeting some of y'all.

When we attend MATG we stay at the Microtel Inn in Robinsville NC.

Usually cheaper than a hotel, too. I've rented a 3br home with hot tub that was around 125/couple/night. nice to have a place to get away from the excitement.

Similar experiences. Get groceries in Robbinsville, rent a home, get a nice, quiet weekend with less traffic.

That is kind of what I was thinking since I'll have a truck and trailer with me. Maneuvering in hotel parking lots is an issue normally, then you add a lot of cars and I tense up like crazy. Anyone want to split a cabin? I don't snore. haha

Just seconding the cabin idea. I spent a week at the Gap with some motorcycle folks a number of years back, we rented a home with hot tub, HUGE garage, 4 bedrooms, lounge, for not much money per man and had a blast.

Staying at a small apartment building in Robbinsville through VRBO. Same place I was at last year. Nice place tucked away in a little pocket of Robbinsville. Will have a few friends staying with. Possibly have room for 1 more person if any of the MR regulars still need a place to stay. PM for details if interested.

I did some more searching last night for rooms, there are cabins available through VRBO. Just be aware that your final cost will be much more than the nightly rate they show, once the manager fees and other charges are added on. If you are splitting this with multiple folks then it will be a decent deal.

Oh, it can be a fantastic deal if you find the right place. After the split it's $70ea. for me and my friends for the weekend.

Fees can also be different depending on which owner rental site you book through too. Gotta check'em all.

There's some places that are still pretty decent deals for 1 person. But they are usually tiny cabins with the mininum.

I find you always have to pay careful attention to what rates they are charging at what times of year. They often advertise their "off-season" rates. I cabin I found on AirBnB was pretty close to the advertised price. There were a few homes on there for around $100-150 a night with multiple bedrooms.

Rumors of my demise were greatly exaggerated :lol:

Truth be told, though: the car only left the lot at Fontana to go up and down NC28 2.5 times. I filled up when I came in on Thursday night and was still over half-full on that tank when I drove out on Sunday. Still too nervous.

Wish I could've met more folks this year, but it happens. Staff duty has gotten to be VERY busy!

I'll keep posting some more...it was rainy at the beginning, but it turned out to be a pretty fun weekend. Not sure if I will go next year as I prefer to go there in April or November when it is NOT so crowded. Since I only live 5 hours away, we try to get down there at least 2x a year.

Parking in the grass turned out to be a major fail, too much mud, and my car became filthy. It was last minute since the group photo could not be taken in the usual location. Maybe 240-250 cars in the group photo and at least twice that many Miatas running around that weekend.

Not judging the organizers at all, as I mentioned understanding the logistics. It's not like there is a large parking area anywhere around that area. Just wished I had skipped that picture because of the mud.

I would love to come up drive up there sometime, just need some time off work as this is always during our busy season.
