So being the super headlight noob I am I need some help getting housings for my HID's. I would like to maintain the 7" style of bulb, I'm not looking for low pros or anything like that. I have some 55W HID's and currently I have these fake projectors off eBay which are NOT doing the job! The cutoff is non existent and the beam pattern is even worse! Anyone have any better ideas for housings that are fairly affordable? I only really care about the low beam pattern if it makes a difference. Here are some pics of the current setup:

Yes but which E-Codes? Bosch, Hella, Cibie?

I've heard the Cibie's are way better but that the Bosch/Hella units are pretty decent too and much cheaper.

I used to have Cibies several centuries ago. They were indeed awesome. Not as good as 4 Hella low-pros firing at once, but damn good. Best reflectors I've ever experienced.

What kind of HID do you have? H4? D2S? They have different housings depending on the bulbs you've got.

I've got 55W 6000k H4's. I know that there is going to be excessive scatter, etc, etc using HID's in a housing intended for halogens but most people around where I live run 55W HID's in their stock pick up truck lights so I don't think I'm going to be bothered about it in the low little Miata.

These (http://busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=0301600118) are $52.50 shipped. Does anyone know of a better deal than that for E-Codes?

i'm running Bosch Motorcycle H4 headlights (from the same seller you linked but from his ebay store) and those PLUS 55/100 watt halogens from Amazon were $75 shipped and output is awesome

and just because everyone else is blinding everyone else, don't join in on that please

Bosch e-codes (pardon the iphone pic, but they're PLENTY of light) and the high beam is EPIC

Ryanxxxxxstoreyxxxxx or whatever his screen name is has HID housings, and the pattern looked pretty decent to me. Hopefully he'll chime in with what he got. They were more than $75, though.

he's using the Dapper lighting kit if i recall correctly, and yeah, far more than $75

I'll check out his eBay store and see if I can get a better deal, thanks for the tip! I do plan on running these aimed correctly. I have seen a 55W HID in a Cibie before and it wasn't bad at all. It certainly wasn't more blinding than new stock Mercedes projectors are. I also plan on doing some masking on the front of the housings to cover up as much scatter as possible above the cutoff too.

Yup, they are Dapper's projectors. I would like some, but they're $370+shipping.

if you've already got the H4 HID's, just get the Bosch headlights and see how it goes

That's what I plan on doing. Do you think it's safe to have my ballasts under my headlight lids right next to the headlight? That's how I currently have them so the install looks super clean, no different than stock. I was worried about it getting too hot under there but I haven't had any issues yet.

that's how I ran my previous Miata with flushmount headlights (Ballasts mounted below the covers) with no problems.

I don't see how it'd get any hotter there than closer to the engine. That's probably the coolest spot in the engine bay for em

I have issues with the Bosch that they are not pointing low enough

So aim them down?

Lol, why not do like the old WWII vehicles and block off all except a bar of light in the center.. I wonder how that'd look, or output..

Crappy paint drawing to illustrate.
