I know im going way back here, but when the Miata was first introduced there was a tradition called the "Miata Wave". http://www.tampabaymiatas.net/forum/images/smilies/hello.gif

For those that don't know, this was whenever you spotted another Miata on the road you would pop-up your headlights (NA guys), or wave, or both. The NB and NC guys would just Blink their lights and wave. But I think since the pop-up lights are no longer used on production cars this seems to be dying out, or maybe also due to a new generation of owners that are not aware of it? Having passed a Miata the other day I flashed him and had not even got a response. :(

Does anyone else still do this? Flash your lights, or wave hello to other Miatas? I do it in both my MINI Cooper and Miata.

I will always wave, and most times raise my barn doors using the center button. I also raise my lights when I want to signal to another car/pedestrian that they can turn or walk across the crosswalk. Little kids always love to see the light doors blink at them.

somebody did this to me around here last week. I was a little stunned because I hadn't seen it in a number of years.

Do the old n00bs still do this at the Gap? I hate that. I usually respond with my finger. The middle one.

I always give a head nod, but sometimes I will Miata-blink at them.

When I drive my NA I usually blink with the barn-doors or do a little wave, in my NB I'll usually do the couple fingers off the steering wheel wave or flash the highbeams. Rarely get a response around here though.

I don't bother because other Miata drivers don't recognize my car as a Miata :(

I do a peace sign but there are some criteria: other Miata has to be tastefully or performance modded, or, in pristine factory condition which is another sign they're an enthusiast.

Around here though, there's a Miata every two minutes and some of them look like an Autozone catalog, or just beater transportation or a fossil behind the wheel.

Every once in a while though...

I'll almost always wave, or when I had my NA I'd pop the headlights via the center button.

I don't see many people behind a miata who wave at me. They just sort of stare... :fp:

Never have...

But I'm not opposed to experimenting with it... ;)

I wink at other miatas or wave whether or not they are enthusiasts. Sometimes I look stupid but every once in a while Ill get a response. There is still hope. :')

I almost always wave. Sometimes I flip up the barn doors too.

Wave. Occasionally.

I always wave to other NA, don't always get anything back, but sometimes do.
I never wave to NB or NC drivers as they never wave back.

I always wave. Very rarely get a wave back.

I'm ashamed to admit, I forgot all about the barndoor wave.

The Nissan/Datsun Z car community had a similar tradition, but it apparently fell by the wayside when the 350Z was released and the commuter:enthusiast ratio took a hit. I just to flash other Z32-and-earlier chassis cars, but I gave up on the 350Z owners.

With the Miata, most of the other Miatas I see around my town are neglected commuters driven by old hippies who don't seem to have any interest in the Miata community. I generally try to make eye contact first when possible and then I will wave, but usually it's met with a blank stare, confused expression, or intentionally averted eyes. :(

I just flick the highbeams,

I found that I get more response doing it this way rather than the barn door wave.

I flash sometimes but usually a low wave - biker style

So I tried waving at about 3 people today. They stared.... I'm a crazy man!

I'll usually wave or flip the headlight doors for another NA. I've yet to see another NA flip their headlight dors back. :(

I also do this. But no reply back. Very few miatas here though.

I wave, but no flash in my NB. I notice no one ever waves back.

I motion we start using ASL, and just signing M... so the miatards know we are directing them. And it's pretty specific.

I blink at all Miatas driving down the road. I rarely get a response unless I see someone in the club.

Are you inviting them for a fisting?

Are you inviting them for a fisting?

Ugh... Is that really a question? Of course I am. Just pull the car over, pull the top down, pants off, strip underwear, commence highly rambunctious fisting on side of freeway.

Highway patrol, feel free to join, you already fist us anyway.

I'll wave if it's a NA or a modified NB. If it's a stock NB or even worse an NC (they never wave because apparently their shit doesn't stink), I don't bother anymore.
