'95 DD - Meka

[Mia95]

Beginning

January of 2011 I brought home my very first roadster, a black '95, and got my first taste of everything the Miata has to offer. I had no idea how to drive manual before I picked her up, but I brought her home regardless and forced myself to learn. She was beautiful and I was loving every second of driving with the top down. One night, I was on my way to pick up my now-ex from work, when a car ran the red light and hit me almost head on. That was the end of Mia. Only 18 days after I brought her home, she was gone. I was hooked, and soon thereafter, I bought my second roadster.

A New Beginning :)

Literally a week after I lost my first roadster, I found this little gem in Ormond Beach, FL and brought her home. She had a bunch of little problems that had a noticeable affect on how she ran, so my first year with her has been to correct those little flaws and get her running at peak performance.


This was the day I brought her home. I started transplanting some of the newer parts from Mia because it was apparent that the white car didn't get the same level of care from the previous owner as the Mia had received from her previous owner.

Touch Ups and Maintenance

January 30th:
-Swapped clutch slave cylinder
-New valve cover gasket
-Swapped valve cover
-Cleaned engine!
-Swapped purge canister
-Spark plugs and wires installed (solved the hiccup and poor acceleration!)
-Swapped shifter

February 1st:
-New pads and rotors all the way around (yay!)

February 2nd:
-Changed fuel filter
-Performed seafoam treatment

February 17th:
-Spent day cleaning engine bay and doing touch ups
-Replaced the old radiator!

February 20th:
-Adjusted parking brake from rear calipers, and now it holds!
-Took off catalytic converter that was clogged and no good and replaced with a magnaflow cat. Has resolved several issues, finally.

March 3rd:
-Upgraded spark plugs to single platinums! (after previous spark plugs fouled)
-Replaced radiator cap (resolved bubbling sound)

April 19th:
-Timing belt and water pump replaced, which solved the power restriction that I'd been feeling.
-Have also narrowed down another problem that I have been noticing for a while. Something is off about the fuel, and we think its the fuel regulator.
This may help some of you that are suffering like I was. When we did the timing belt, we found that the belt had been set the wrong way, and to cover their mistake, they advanced the ignition timing by 2 degrees. Now that my timing belt has been done correctly and the ignition timing set back to base timing, my power has come back. Its now running exactly like (or better) than my black NA once ran.

Setback #1: All Florida Meet

My first date with the curb.
Damages: The control arm bent, inner tie rod bent, outer tie rod snapped, the strut blew out, and the lower ball joint popped.


Thanks to all the people that helped out that day. I found out how tight the Miata community can be and I truly appreciated it.

Setback #2: Hit and Run

I was sleeping over my now-ex's house when we got woken up at 5am by the neighbor that lives across from him. When I heard the door bell ringing like crazy, I KNEW there was bad news.

And I was right. My bf opened the window of his second story house and the neighbor yelled out that the Miata had been hit. Parked. Ugh. We ran down stairs in our pjs and outside, only to find the drivers side fender dented in with the paint chipping real ugly. They'd hit the side mirror too.

2 houses down, another car got totaled. You could literally see the path of damage caused by this idiot. Thankfully he went on the grass. If he hadn't, there wouldn't have been tire tracks that continued all the way down the road to a spot where he went on the grass again (apparently getting confused as to which house was his) and finally to where he parked. Little damage to his ford taurus, but with enough damage in his wake that *we thought* he was going to kiss his license goodbye.

Needless to say, we were surprised to find out that all of this was done by a drunk 14 year old boy who had gone joy riding in his mother's car. Of course he had no license and, therefore, was not covered by his parents' insurance. They ended up paying out of pocket for all of the damage.
