I'm going to make some TSIs for my BRG car and want to find out what peoples thoughts are on what looks better. Personally I like what Zest did, although I wouldn't want the light to be so far recessed, and I want to have the sidelight in there as well somehow:

The plan would be to find either a small round or oval light that has both indicator and sidelight in it, or possibly a pair of triangles to make up a square or diamond...
The real sticking point before was finding something small enough.... in the Uk we have to have a sidelight as well as an indicator but having 2 round units might not work. I could have 1 at each end, but not sure how much space there would be left for the intake if I did that?

Another option is get 2 small bulb holders and fit them into a small oval light unit?

One option is to add a row of LEDs across the top or bottom of the unit, not sure if that would spoil the retro look though?
Option 1 -
Around the top

Option 2 -
Around the bottom

Any thoughts welcome!

Did some digging and found a pic of the old TSIs I made... thinking if I got an oval unit that was a bit more smoked, and frenched it in a bit more, it would look a lot better?

The oval unit actually mirrors the intake hole and the front of the car better than the round one does, so if done right it should look better?

Hard to improve on what Adam did:

I didn't want to just copy Zest / Adam... but to be fair they do look spot on!! I might just make a set in oval anyway just to be different and sell them on if I don't like them as much...

Cheers!! Not sure which way this will go, but I'm probably going to make a couple of sets... a set with the oval ones recessed more, and probably a set with the round ones so I can compare and contrast. I'm not sure about the LEDs, its the simplest way to sort out the sidelight issue but I'm not sure they really look at home on the MX5 / Miata?

Please don't do the LEDs. From my personal perspective, I hate the fact the OEM Manufacturers are even using them. They just don't look right. But to each their own. And I like the round lenses.

IMHO, I don't think LED would look nice.

Russell, you knocked it out of the park when you made the duck tail spoilers, so I'm sure you'll do something great. If you're going to make these....why not think completely out of the box, and not start with a pre-existing piece. Example, fill the light hole with clay and sculpt your own intake. Have fun.

Thanks for the comments... I've just bought a set of broken sidelight units, so I can gut them and just use the attachment points and the outer shape... I have also got hold of some modelling clay... so we'll see which way this goes, thanks for the inspiration!!
