I have matching red paint on the way but I'll probably go with black in the end.
What black would you guys go with, flat, satin, semi gloss?

Flat and satin only look good about 1% of the time. The other 99% they look crappy. Go with gloss. Red.

Red it is.

Lots of orange peel and a little deeper than the 24 year old paint but I like.
I got the paint from this place, I'm no painter but I think it is really good stuff.

The Miata is a new toy for me, and of course, it was not as good as the PO said it was. In his defense, I don't think he knew.
It got a new Exceedy clutch, rear main and trans input seals, new upper and lower shift boots, and a nice leather boot from Topgaiters, New tires, General Altimax HP's, Oh, and new wiper blades. And it is snowy out, still waiting to drive it after the clutch install.

While flipping through the new #42 of this great publication, there are many new exterior/interior items that jumped out at me:

1) While this one has been elusive as the honored Stainless Steel window frame that Autoblaze used to make, S2 Racing has re-introduced a set of RX7 FD3S driving/turn-signal lamps-called the "Zero One.".

It is a very nice piece. Chromed on both sides. It is affixed with double-stick tape and has been on "Red Dwarf" for four years.

The purchase price was over $300, but I got it from the Miata.net classifieds for $75. It took a year to get the courage up to put it on.

This is the holy grail of all Japanese parts. The only think you can do to even come close is to use mirror chromed vinyl which they have been using in Japan for some time now.

Here is another shot of the Autoblaze frame

I have been looking for the Autoblaze Windsheild frames for a long time as well to no avail. However, somebody was selling one in Japanese yahoo auction last week but it only had to top frame and it was well used. Keep your eyes opened @ yahoo auction, you may have your luck there.

Holy shit. Either NB AWD stuff is carrying s huge premium or my into the blue gauges just got a ton more valuable.

Yeah I was watching that auction this morning.

The parts in that auction that bring the premium are the Limited Edition Thick Gauge Rings that Dewa-san made. IIRC he had 3 versions, and they all had the glass inserts on the NA, not sure about NB though. When new they cost about $300+ for the set of rings w/glass, and he only had them available on his site for a short time. Once he sold out he never made them again.

After demand surfaced again RS-Refine starting make their own version, mostly on a limited basis too, but with polycarbonate lens. (I was on the 2nd and 3rd group buy).

Ah thanks, i knew it had rings, but didn't realize what they were. We need a fourth GB :)

After the 3rd group buy one of the members from CR made direct copies from taking the measurements of a set they ordered in the group buy. Needless to say that really pissed off the owner of RS-Refine so bad that when he found out, he then posted about the copies and how he wont deal with the USA again, and then he started ignoring emails about a 4th group buy, so good luck with that.

(Sorry for the crappy photo)
The guy in the shop I do the most stuff for my car, had some stuff left over from a crashed Miata, and wanted to empty some space, so I got all of the tan carpets, black/tan dash, armrest, side sill covers and some misc tan plastic pieces REALLY cheap.

I really like them, but since I have a red '97 NA, I'm in a dilema: I really like the retro looks of, let's say, Revlimiter's Sharka, but I think NBFL's interior is classier and more modern.

Should I sell this stuff, and buy a pre-94 NA dash and black carpet, or stick with the NBFL stuff?

HALP! (Maybe I should start a build thread, also)

NB dash is sexy but has modern styling and feel.

if you want retro then 1.6L Dash is the way to go IMHO

Ran across this abandoned/discontinued BBK that uses an 11" Corrado disc and uses a Wilwood dynamite/dynapro calipers for......ready? $100 shipped. The owner found this at the trunk of the car he bought but I guess already have a BBK on it. It did not come with the calipers so it is still a project but FWIW.....

wow this is really nice work!! Did you make the light buckets too?

also what front grill is that you have? I have one in my garage and don't know who makes them, its been sitting on a shelf for 10 years now :fp:

Thanks! It was a labor of love and totally worth doing.
I had to gut out the original bracket to fit and weld in the new adjustment brackets for the housing so the frame is the original but would not be able to go back to original dual lights. I'm not sure on the brand of grill either... It was on the car when I bought it. I think the last I saw one of them for sale was when RavenWing Performance was still around. That was about the time I was tinkering around with my first Miata. It's been a while!

Let's see.

My big project so far in 2015 was to redo my brakes. I had one "stuck" caliper up front, and one leaky rear caliper. Thus I snagged a used set (Front and Rear) and had the calipers powder coated black. Rebuilt all four corners, and upgraded rotors, pads, lines and fluid. Was definitely one of the more fun jobs I've done on the car.

Received and installed the DDM Works cruise control relocation bracket. Trying to clean up the engine bay but at the same time I'd like to keep as much as I can. Cruise control can be nice at times so instead of deleting it, this relocation bracket made sense.

After a simple install I am very happy with it. It seemed a bit overkill compared to the less-expensive Racing Beat option but it also seemed a sturdier option. Because of it being overkill (in a good way) the only issue with it is that the induction tube for the stock air box can no longer be used. Leaving the big hole in the back of the box gives me bad vibes. To solve this a DDM Intake has been ordered and will be here tomorrow :)

It's been a while since I had a Mazdaspeed wheel with that trim ring but in my experience if it had that trim ring on it for any length of time then the surrounding spokes will fade in the sun due to UV exposure leaving the center a darker color. Short of totally stripping the wheel to restore it, your best bet is to fit one of those trim rings to cover it up! I don't recall there being any special trick to fitting it. You might need longer bolts but I doubt it.

True, I've considered that. However I figure if someone hits me, insurance is going to be replacing the car as it sits. (at least I'll fight with them tooth and nail to do so) So I figure it won't hurt to have spare lenses. But I'd love to find whole lamp assemblies.

Installed the DDM Works intake on the 1.6 today. Install was quick and easy. Happy with the minor performance gains and little bit of noise it emits.

Cleans up the engine bay and looks nice.

The intake has definitely helped the idle soften out. It used to drop below 500rpm at idle. No more of that. Much smoother and quicker throttle response (not that there is much on the 1.6 lol) . It just makes the engine feel like it is running a lot smoother. The car feels....newer? lol For $89 I am happy with the results.

One thing I will change out is the filter, most likely to a K&N or just a better way to clamp the filter on. Just personal preference. The way the UNI filter clamps on "snug" worries me that one day it will fall off at cruising speeds. Carrying a Philips screwdriver in the trunk just in case.

Garage Star Delrin Door Bushings came in today. Installed them immediately. Took more time to find a thin wall 10mm socket than it did to actually get them installed. Did not drive the car with them in today, but I am impressed with how the door closes.

Also received the Version Stirling HVAC panel and trim ring by revlimiter. Took a bit longer to install as I had to run out to get some double sided tape. Happy with the results. Still debating if I should get a HVAC plate. Really like the way the ring looks and matches Sharka's vent rings and how the HVAC panel matches my Stirling gauges.

Pictures were taken with a sweet potato.

Yup. Adam says the '96 two button combo is red. I will either do that, swap the current bulbs, or I may replace the buttons with custom momentary switches.

I didn't take any pictures during the process but will try to post some up close interior shots later. Well they're not really new I've had them sitting in the garage for maybe two years because I ended up fitting the 14 inch version. But I just decided to clean them up today using Sonax extreme wheel cleaner (http://www.sonax.com/Products/Tyres-Rims-Rubber/(search)/1/(so)/1/(node)/12815/230200-SONAX-XTREME-Wheel-cleaner-PLUS) (the stuff that turns purple after a few min).

Probably a couple decades of brake dust caked onto these wheels, not even a whole bottle of Sonax could fully clean them... I'll have to attack them again later. At least they're clean enough to mount now.
