So i'm still up in the air as too what color to paint my Miata, and I tend to go through phases when I build cars, trying out parts, on/off. off/on, and again until I find that right mix/style im looking for.

So instead of commiting to ONE paint color I might just wrap one of the cars to see how i like it.

Has anyone else got their Miata wrapped yet?

These guys are not too far from me, looks like they are into vehicle wraps now among other things.

wrapping a car can come out very well. they are easy to keep clean and automotive vinyl can last up to 15 years!

For a good wrap job, it's almost in the price of paint. Myself, I prefer paint.

agree however you can always remove the vinyl later and the paint is still fresh underneath!

Chris, you should wrap your car in Orange! Would look like an angry pumpkin for Halloween!

A wrap isn't permanent. So i think it'd be cool to try it out.

Though I'm not sure how much they could cost, which would prohibit me from trying it out.

Can you start a proper build thread on you *own* site so I could know which car you wanna paint :P

Another thing to keep in mind is the condition of the paint underneath. I have heard of stories where the person tried to remove the wrap and pulled up part of the paint.

When I get the rest of my parts in stock and have freetime ill get busy doing stuff. Hard to find freetime when you have kids. :fp: I want to be a father first you know. So for now ive just been gathering parts. :P

Paint most likely weighs less if you want to be really geeky about this.

good point here. good vinyl wrap on a full size car can cost over $3000. but miatas are very small in comparison and will be much less to wrap.

somebody wrap their Miata in this Tintek Chrome wrap!!! hahaha

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that at least in Florida, it's illegal to have a chrome car.

Also vinyl is not cheap. Even if you do the work yourself, that would be at least a $200 expense every month to change the color of your car.

I wonder if you could also write on the car with a dry erase marker and wipe it off? Just a random thought.

I am thinking of wrapping my car. User MarbleGT wrapped his NC in Gulf Livery. He stated his budget was us$400.Thats a lot cheaper than paint. Also I don't want to paint a full color change on my Sunburst Yellow, but a change for a while sounds like fun. I see it as an alternative to Plasti Dip, which is another form of temp color change and the vinyl will look glossy and cleaner.

If I remember correctly the guys at 5X Racing wrap their race prepped Miatas .

There is a guy in my local club that plasti-dipped his miata in a nice blue color, it was only like $300 IIRC?

I don't have the link to his build thread with more/better photos, but here is a front shot.

You mean Chops on here? (think thats his username lol)

The thing with vinyl wrap is that if you have dents in your car they become even more obvious. Also, if your fender wells/underside of bumpers aren't spotless the vinyl won't stick as well so it takes time to actually get it to look good.

I'm not sure if its illegal seeing as Mastro Subaru here in Tampa sold one last year, and they have another one up for sale this year on their lot.

I looked at both vinyl and plastidip for my NB before I sold it. I was leaning towards vinyl for longevity, protection and finish quality. There are big differences in vinyl quality, so research it. Plastidip just didn't have the finish I wanted. While vinyl would take longer to apply, plastidip would take longer to remove...by far.

My research also gave me insight that replacing a panel with vinyl would be easier than plastidip (a non removable panel). If you watch some of the videos on DIY vinyl, especially a few I saw from England, it really makes it easier to understand how to do it and the amount of time it takes.

We just had a chrome wrapped BMW 650 stop in today. It was blinding. We have also had Joey Votto's (Cincinnati Reds) wrapped matte grey Ferrari in the store for a detail. Here is a pic I found of it. I love vinyl so I would definitely give it a go. I will try to get a pic of the 650 tomorrow.
