What are your favorite Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars?

Collecting model die-cast vehicles is one of the most popular, and most under-publicized hobbies in America. More than 200 million die-cast vehicles are purchased each year! Within the past decade the die-cast car collecting phenomenon has become a world wide passion, reaching Japan, Brazil, Germany, and Australia. Most people don't start to love cars as soon as they are old enough to drive though, it starts when we are young children playing with these great little toy Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. Do you remember what your FIRST Hot Wheels or Matchbox car was? What is your all time favorite die-cast Hot Wheels or matchbox car?? It's okay, you can come out of hiding now, we know you are out there!

Chances are eBay probably has that car listed you played with as a kid.

Here is my top 10 favorite castings (go to ebay like me and grab some photos & post your own favorites!)

1. VW Drag Bus 5054

2. Tail Dragger 5055

The Drag Buss is cool, but I really like the old school RedLines era. I would say,

Bye-Focal / Show Off

Evil Weevil

Mighty Maverick

Torino Stocker

Heavy Chevy

Show Hoss II

Pictures later.

I have a beat Evil Weevil from my childhood. I also like the 68 Camaro, Hotbird and Roger Dodger.

my kid found got a roger dodger from somewhere (probably from my mom's house) with an old date on the bottom. it's too clean to not be a re-issue though.

matchbox is great. i mean, yeah, they do make a prius, but at least they are realistic. :D they make a baller FJ40.

Bet you didn't. They were prototypes that never even made it into retail packaging. A version with the board in pockets on the SIDES of the van was sold, but the rear-load boards never did.

Correct, and only a very few of the rear loading Beach Bombs were ever made...pink being the "Holy Grail"... One sold for a reported $72,000 dollars.

I have been an antique dealer on the side for 20+ years. I've owned less than three dozen HotWheels in that time. But, I brokered a deal for the BeachBomb where all three of us were aware of it's real value. Most of the others I've had have been first and second year cars. Nothing modern.

I did have a batch of pre '76 cars as a kid. Played with them and tore them up just like most kids.

I do have a collection of vintage COX Chaparral slot cars. Those will most likely hit the market this fall. I already sold the perfect J2 to a collector.

I'll have to find my box of cars and see if I remember which ones I liked the best. Most of them are in poor condition though. We used to put them at the bottom of this tiny dirt mount at school and kick them. This would launch them in the air, bombing the kids at the playground.
