Hood prop rod

The previous owner kept the prop rod in the trunk. I tried installing it, and it like the rod sits directly on the upper radiator hose. It didnt seem right to me, so I put in back in the trunk. That's obviously the place it suppose to go, but should there be some space between rod and the hose?

prop rod goes on driver side. theres aa tab on the headlight bracket area that the bottom of the rod sits in. and the top o the rod slides into the L shaped hole on the hood.

And no it should not constantly rub on the hose. Possibly you have a prop rod from a different car? Seen it before.

1.6 and 1.8 hood props are shaped differently. 1.6 has more of a straight line where as 1.8's have a bend to it.
