Updated it with a photo for you, these will look great on a Miata, and the specs show a 15x8 in the lineup!!

Thanks Randy.

Now I really want some shiny, 14 inch, low offset light wheels as my next choice. (14x7 rpf1's ftw) But I have always like this style (wats won me over). If the 15x8 is in a reasonable offset and not weigh a shit ton. Looking at you Apache II and enkei 92 at the fat 16-18 pounds a wheel. I might just buy a set of these.

エンケイ独自のリム成形技術「MATプロセス」により鍛造ホイールにも匹敵する、優れた材料強 度を実現。

Forged by achieving comparable to "MAT process" Enkei own rim molding technology, a superior material strength.
Was also realized a significant weight reduction by further thinning of the rim.

Ooh, I'm interested.

Not too keen on the how the hub plate extends out that far though. Makes it look more like a chaparrel than a wat.

The only thing I don't like about the wheel is the lip. Other than that, they look good.

I really dig that! I wanna know weights, but I do like it. The vintage sawtooth on the lip just makes it.

A lot of folks are saying that, however like Adam said, it helps give it that more "vintage" look, and if they made a polished lip right from the start im sure everyone would say, lets just buy a Rota, or it looks just like the Rota, etc etc, so Im glad they changed it up a bit!

If anyone is gonna be at the JCCS this weekend please take some close up photos, and you Cali guys are spoiled with your sneak peeks!! Lets see some of these on a Miata already!!

I saw this wheel in person at the Global Time Attack event this weekend. The finish is a frosted grey/silver paint that mimics cast magnesium. The wheel looks gooood.

I wonder if they'll re-issue the Compe 8's that didn't have the finned lip?

Also they'd better do some 14x7's again. In 4x100 of course, since all the 14's of these I've ever seen were 4x114.3.

Did someone mention the need for 14"x7.5"? Sounds nice. Maybe we should ring up Brian Goodwin again like we did with the 14" RPF1s...see what, if anything, can be done. :)

For comparison, here are my original Enkei Compe 8 wheels. Pic taken about 6.5 years ago. I believe they're 14x6. Can't remember offset.
http://farm1.staticflickr.com/62/225721372_3f7811e018_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/addlightness/225721372/)

Note the smooth lip, not serrated like the new version. I've seen this serrated lip on gravel rally wheels before. The feature that really distinguishes the original Compe 8 wheels from other 8-spokes like the RS Watanabe F8 style wheels is the flanged center bore. Otherwise, they're pretty similar. The new ones are pretty cool but will be a pain to keep clean because of all those tiny pockets on the rim.

I emailed back and forth with an Enkei sales rep today. The wheels aren't light . . . 17.95lbs for the 15x8 +20 and 16.3lbs for the 15x7 +38. Boo!

Not true, the weight is a non issue except for racing where light weight is an advantage. No difference according to AX tests, from what I read.

RoadsterTech
02-02-2013, 04:50 PM
Please list your publications.
That does not line up with anything I have read in 21 years of Miata ownership.
I would also be curious to see the weights of wheels used on the last 10 years of SCCA leaders running Miata's.
just for Kicks and Grins.

Ok the GRM test was with an NC2 with 17" wheels. That is a totally different beast than an NA which Flippy has.
I can tell you of my own test on an NA like Flippy's
16" x (7?) TRW type 45's 38mm offset (close to 23 lbs) vs 16 x 7.5 ATS Planets with 38mm offset (15 lbs). Both ran the same tire. The car felt like a slug with the TRW's cornering over wash boards was a nightmare. The Planets were a totally different experience. The suspension could handle wash board pavement and the car felt nimble.

It you run an autocross course like we have here at Brooksville airport you will get very uneven pavement. Not nice to cars that can't handle bad pavement. But that's just my thoughts.

But if anyone wants to run heavy they can have my type 45's. or at least 3 of them. One has a big hole in it.

concealer404
02-04-2013, 10:53 AM
Bear in mind the GRM test was really about speed rather than feel.

Sometimes what feels best isn't the fastest.

RoadsterTech
02-05-2013, 11:22 PM
Yes... But if you are skittering around irregular pavement as stated in my post you aren't going to be faster.

Again we are also discussing a very different car. I would like to see that test repeated with an NA.

I know the 15s are a little heavy @ 16lbs (though only 1lb more than the M2 Panasports I had), but I'm surprised there are not more about, considering they are at a pretty decent price, only a little more than the Rota RBs, and made to a better standard (Enkei's own Spec-E testing).

I actually was afraid to get these wheels because of the weight as well. I love the look and that size and offset of the 15x8 25 was perfect for my NB and I wanted an older look. I have a set of 10lbs andvanti storms and went to these, mine weighed in at 17.2 and i will say that for a daily driver there is almost no difference to me in steering feel or ride comfort. When you push the car you can feel the weight a bit more making it feel a little twitchy when you hit bumps at high speeds. For that reason these are going to be my Fall/winter wheels with all season tires on them and I'll go back to a lighter wheel when the seasons call for more spirited runs and autoX. But they look amazing.
