The Japanese versions are hit or miss in my area, there is mostly "Merica Iron" fans here so I can score some Import Hot Wheels somewhat easy, but I have heard from several friends that live in California that they get snatched up quick!

What is a treasure hunt and how can you tell...

Currently, regular Treasure Hunts are no different than the normal versions of a car with the exception of a small circle flame logo somewhere on the car. A Super Treasure Hunts have Spectraflame paint (http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Spectraflame) and Real Riders wheels (http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Real_Riders).

The Super Treasure Hunt Toyota 2000 GT doesn't have a circle flame logo, but it does have "TH" on the right rear corner of the hatch. Not sure if a "TH" is in place of the circle flame logo on all Super Treasure Hunts as I've only found the one so far.

And every time I'm in Wal-Mart, I check the Hot Wheels to see if any new stock has come in. I usually check the Wal-Mart of the town over too when I'm there on Wed. for comics. Still looking for an Enterprise. I've got I think at least 2 extra regular 2000 GTs.

If it had been a Matchbox card, sure, they would have been fine. Which really, considering the cars in those photos, would have been far more accurate.

I remember a comedian making the comparison between the two as something like the following, "you rode to the store in something that you could get from Matchbox, but you went home with a Hot Wheels."

Back in high school I started buying hot wheels when i saw a cool one. I've got a couple r32 gtrs, s2000s, Lamborghinis, a Tesla roadster, Datsun bluebird, and a bronze/copper colored Delorean with an opening rear hatch.

I read the last couple pages and thought I had some treasure hunt cars because I've got several with metallic paint. I got excited...but I guess that's the older hot wheels with lead candy paint. Oh well. My interest has been sparked and next time I'm at Walmart I'm digging through for a few more.

No luck on any of the cool stuff above. Most of the places were kind of bare so I'll be checking for a restock this week. Target was overstuffed with HW including the big tub that was so full, there was no sifting through the cars unless you dump half the box out on the floor. Still, nothing of interest, just old stuff.

Went by WeBeToys and no good HW there either but then I was surprised to see that Maisto is in the game with its HW-like cars on half cards! I love Maisto for its bigger scale models and managed to pick up the only 370Z in the store.

figured I'd take a look in my local supermarket... it was like a warzone in those little buckets of cars. totally wrong products in the sections and their were about 10 opened packets from kids (I hope its kids) stealing.

I did find the 620 Datsun. I was shocked I collect other stuff and often the UK is a few months behind at best and this toy seemed quite new to the market. I also found a green retro celica the packet was smashed to crap almost 50% missing but it was the only one and I open them so I took it.

I was in another town today and spotted a ton of the Zamac cars, black 2000GTs, Datsun 620 pickups and red Chargers. There were so many, I could have spent $100 bucks easy. Just decided to get three for now and hope I didn't make a mistake not buying those others.

So I figured the pegs would get pretty cleaned out on black friday, I ended up not buying any cars that day at all, they were the same batch that had been sitting there for weeks, what was left of them anyway. The next day (today) would make for some great hunting, as they would have restocked with fresh boxes. Only 2/4 stores ended up restocking before I got to them, but I was right :mrgreen:

Yes, I bought a regular hunt Fangster. It's my birthday gift to myself >_> I found 3 more that I pulled out and set on the front of the pegs. Not pictured: EF Civics, Mars rovers, Herbie Beetle, Kool Kombi, Mystery Machine and Bat-Pod. Definitely my best day hunting ever, some of them were 60 cents because ToysR'Us event runs until the end of today, so get out there guys. :D

Haha. I texted a photo to Phat but I should have posted it here. The pegs at Walmart here were cleaned out and I mean completely. Zip, zilch, nada, even the peg warmers that've been there all year. On Thanksgiving though, they rolled out a pallet of HW packs which are also gone now. Just waiting for fresh stock on the pegs now but talking to another HW enthusiast, there's a stock employee who rifles through all the HW before they go on the pegs which explains why I've never found anything cool in that store.

Over at Kmart, they fully stocked their racks with new inventory before Black Friday and I was able to snag one Star Trek Enterprise out of the hundreds of new HW. They do have some Celicas and such in new paint schemes too.

BTW, love that Mars Rover above and also the bumper car.

All the 9 car packs are gone? I think ours didn't get touched at any of the stores. I think you have a lot more collectors in your area than me (lucky me!). The only collector event I managed to get out to had a total of 6 or 8 people. And that sucks about the employee grabbing what he wants without giving anyone a chance :/

My old collection is loosely thrown in cardboard box in my California closet, last time I looked a pair of skates fell through the top of the box and I don't really know what condition they're in. hahhahaaha, yeah that is Regular Treasure Hunt (with the circle flame), then they also have a SUPER Treasure Hunt which is marked with a (TH) on the car, but much MUCH harder to find. Basically you have to be there right after they open the cases to get that, PLUS you have to know what cars you are looking for.

Same here, I only open them for "Kmart Collector Days", and my kids get most of those :teehee:

I use to open them up when I had them in display cases on the wall, but had to take all of that down once the kids were old enough to reach them and snatch them off the displays.

Most M2 Chases have gold wheels and accents. I've got 150 or so 1/64 and about 30 1/24s.

The M2 Chases have Gold Chrome.
Originally they were all Chrome, but M2 isn't doing them anymore. $
Then they were all Black with Gold Chrome, and some are Gold with Gold Chrome.
Now some Chases are done in colors still with the Gold Chrome.

Having collected for 13+ years, I can tell you that I have seen different numbers of main line cars produced. In the mid 90's the introduced wheel variations of the same colored cars (that made it interesting). And now, they are doing the same car/casting in different colors, but same collector numbers. I don't think I've seen a rhyme or reason.

Yes and no, they are generally the same numbers get produced but some cars get gobbled up in quantity by collectors, scaplers, hoarders (me), and Flea Market, Ebay sellers. Also like WASABI stated, they may be the same car but a wheel or color variation, and or both! That's when folks get nutty, ugh.

Oh and this past year they did a hidden Now & Then paint job on select cars, Camaro, Challenger, and the Mustang I think?

The main line stuff looks to be new paint tampos for previous cars with exception to the 1974 Brazillian Dodge Charger and Lamborghini Sesto Elemento. Got lucky with the Beverly Hills Cop II Cutlass and Italian Job Mini in white as they were the last two on the peg and I didn't have them yet. I also didn't notice that I had bought 2 each of imports, muscle cars and super cars until I took these pictures.

I saw the RX-7 tampo but not the Celica, they look great. The Mach 1 too! I thought it was a super hunt at first. Found the old/new blue mustang and red charger pairs as well thanks to the helpful hints here :)

Super Hunts generally have Fancy Paint, and Real Rider Rubber Tires (Left is Super Hunt) (Right is basic car)
