Currently running an original JRSC M45 setup (complete with the little black resistor box for fuel!). I have a BRP MP62 setup w/intercooler and MS waiting in the wings. I had hoped to install it before I left to go back to work, but I'm still waiting on the COPs I bought from Track Speed Engineering. I'll post pictures of it all once it's in.

http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=216&products_id=1034&osCsid=7fb7f24a3bf59cd5aa5173433ccf0ec1

to replicate this.

http://img.tapatalk.com/184ba336-ea70-c7e8.jpg

At ~$350 completed I think its a great deal and value. Especially since they claim .1% boost drop from this inter cooler. I'll be running an m45 on a 6lb pulley initially. Then mayyyyyybe pushing 9lbs eventually.

I think its a great idea. I could throw some ice in once in a while for kicks, it'd be fun!

But, where to mount the IC Radiator and fan? I'd really like to have the fan on that radiator as I suspect it would drastically reduce coolant temps.

Yes, the prior own had it installed at Mazda shortly after he bought the car. I was looking at the specs on this from an old Sebring Supercharger ad and it states this is rated at 175hp on the 1.6L motor. Everything else on the car is bone stock though, even the exhaust! hahha But the whine that supercharger makes is pretty damn cool, hahhaa.

But I know my current setup is 100% stock, heck the car still has the stock exhaust, so im sure I can get some more hp outta this system, just wondering how much?

You got an M45 to fit with a RB header? Is that an NA thing only?

Phat, there's a lot that can be added to squeeze more performance from a JRSC but ROI quickly diminishes as does reliability. Better to start fresh with a turbo build or be happy with an inexpensive and reliable 150ish hp.

Miata GT, nice setup! Make sure to introduce yourself and your ride in our New Members thread. You're not official 'til Winlowe welcomes you.

Racing Beat originally created a 4-2-1 header. They discontinued this header not long after the current 4-1 header came out. The 4-1 does not fit under a supercharger without modification* but the old one (like I have) fits fine.

*TDR modified a RB 4-1 header for a 99 with MP62. I was present when the same car went on the dyno 3 times in one day, with stock, JR, and modified RB 4-1. I don't recall the exact numbers, but I believe the JR was about 2 hp over stock and the modded RB was 7 or 8 hp over stock.

Without the restrictor others were making around 185 whp on just the stock setup. I have better engine management and larger injectors but without an intercooler (on order) I have put the restrictor back in. People have claimed upwards of 300 whp on a modified setup but I would be happy with ~230.

Pardon my unfamiliarity with Rotrex but why not just get rid of any restrictor altogether? Is it there just to stop you from wrecking your internals but would otherwise crank out 300hp?

The problem is the heat of the intake charge, especially now that it is getting hot out. The base kit uses the restrictor to limit the boost to 5psi due to the voodoo-like box that can only provide so much in the way of fueling. During the winter and early spring I was running it uncorked with good engine management and 600cc injectors. I could still do that but the ECU would pull so much timing out it wouldn't be worth it.

I like the Rotrex's stealthiness too. Under boost it is nearly silent. After a lot of consideration, and wanting to keep the stealthy aspect of the car intact, I have ordered an AW intercooler and heat exchanger from Frozen Boost, along with a Mustang Cobra coolant pump. Given the Rotrex is far more efficient and puts out less heat than roots-style blowers the AW intercooler setup should be more than sufficient.

Once that's done I have a smaller pulley waiting and will finally have the car professionally tuned and optimized (now it auto-tunes itself).

To shane: I like the kit but don't like that I feel shafted by Oscar Jackson. The kit was expensive but I bit hoping for the promised cheap upgrade path to a Stage 2 system. I do like the setup and again, like the stealthy nature of the Rotrex.

I will tell you this, the coldside FFS is a thing of beauty, once it's installed and adjusted properly. Installation is the kookoo part. The instructions have not been updated since day 1, and many steps have been deleted/changed. There were numerous times where I was ready to call it quits. The saving grace was the owner, Tom. I could always get him on the phone, and he always had an answer/work-around for me. The customer service skills are top-notch.

That IC piping is beautiful. Oh and I love the color you painted your VC as well.

I don't have any pictures of my finished install, I'll post one up when I get home in a month or two.

I'm thinking about getting this setup

http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=216&products_id=1034&osCsid=7fb7f24a3bf59cd5aa5173433ccf0ec1

to replicate this.

That's my set up :) but here's a more recent picture.
I have it set up so that the fan is sandwiched between the IC radiator and the AC condensor. I have a manual switch for the fan but I mostly leave it turned on.
Since this pic was taken I've changed the IC to a type 20 inline one. The type 9 added just enough volume that I was getting idle issues.

Damn, that's a heck of an engine bay. Quick question: is your silicone pipe by the throttle body caved in on purpose?

At idle it sucks in due to the -ve pressure. Once the pressure turns +ve it pops out.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum and thought I'd check in. Bought my 94 three years ago. Hope to track it next year. It seems conventional wisdom is, na is best for tracking, but I longed for more power! Bought this setup two years ago and got it running this summer. It's a BRP coldside with a M45. I'm running a power card with a MSD timing control.I'm seeing 8+ lbs with it. Pulls very nicely!

Made 192 rwhp. Only issue I ever had was the mounting bracket cracked. TDR sent me another one no questions asked.

Thx! Matched the color of the top and seats.

I miss that car... the kid that bought it stripped it back to stock and bought a FMII setup. Said he wanted 300hp in a daily driver. Never got the car tuned and sold it including the turbo setup for less than he paid me for it.

So question to all you JR MP45 kit owners I'm taking a trip on Saturday to collect whats basically a totally stock kit however my car has a bigger rad with the OEM fans fitted and looking at photos on line I'm worried that I'm going to run the risk of the crossover pipe and the fans hitting each other. So anyone on here have any experience with this? Its not the end of the world if they do rub as I plan to buy the ILmotorsport slim fans down the line but I'm interested to know if I can get away with my current config

on the 1.8 i am willing to wager that you can set the crossover pipe on top of the oem fans, which will definitely cause some vibration, especially when the fans turn on! lol, but yeah, even my slimfans would hit if they came up as high as the top of the radiator. my radiator is 2.5 inches thick... my slimfans sit about 3 inches below the top of the radiator so they clear fine. the oem fans bolt right in prettymuch level with the top of the radiator - so the pipe would have to rest on top of them if not put a little pressure down on them.

thanks for the info. Well the seller has actually offered to help me fit it when I go to buy so I will find out on the day. He's using power cards and a norrow band (basically its the whole kit Moss put together plus a few nice extras) but once its home and I've had a bit of fun I'm swapping to an AEM wideband and a MS2 from reverant I originally got when I was planning on going for ITB's. Then once its running nicely I'm thinking of doing the whole intercooler, smaller pulley, fuel pump and larger injectors to get the most from it.

I have been (reluctantly) looking to Rotrex NB setups, and I have a question for the supercharged crew. In all installations I have seen that retain both PS and AC, the belt wrap around the PS pulley is really minimal, definitely less than 90deg and most probably around 50-60, which would worry me. I was wondering if any of you runs a similar setup and can provide some feedback. Also, has anyone considered running an overlay crank pulley for the Rotrex? This would complicate the mounting quite a lot, but it *might* be better.

Since the thread has been revived I'll add my setup.

1990 with VVT motor. Made about 137hp/124tq before Rotrex.
VICS mani, OBX header, RB exhaust. Aluminum flywheel and Supermiata 1.6 clutch.
Using the quite small 75mm pulley, which is only making 10 psi (??) it made 234hp/184tq.
With a 4.3 Torsen and 5 speed, it's a hoot.

Love that car! Preparing my setup now, stock 1.6 engine, C30/74 with 80mm pulley. Love NA cars, so I am sure I will like the Rotrex power delivery, plus IMO it was the most "OEM-like" setup to my eyes.

What's the ROW 1.6 NBs usually make with bolt ons and stand alone? About the same as the US cars?
