i have an 06 NC,2.0 litre. CEL recently went on had it read , some generic code ,had it reset . Well its back on again. So ..only out of convenience took it to tires plus.paid fir full diagnostic scan. I watched it passed all tests. But it was reading tgat ghe throttle was at 32 %....no foot on gas, engine NOT racing.

Sothey said maybe a newthrottle body!..which is a $659.99 part. .I said no ghanks they reset the light. Itwas back on wighin 20 mins of driving. Now car runs fine. But when im stopped ,clutch in...normal idle .. I put it in gear(clutch still in).....and the idle goes up 3 to 5 hundred revs?.It doesnt matter what gear.

im lost ..looking for some good advice, and hoping i dont need $800 worth of work....not NOW!....

Hard to help you without the actual code it threw.

Maybe a bad sensor, but knowing the code would still be helpful.

Looking like TPS sensor with that code. $40! There is no Advanced or Zone close to you? They do it for free. I am sure one of the more experienced guys will chime in.

Also O'Reilly's should let you borrow a scanner so you can do it yourself for free. But I don't know if that chain is in your area.

Is this car a manual transmission?

Read a few instances of this happening on a couple of Mazda 3s and an NB. Replacing the clutch switch (not the interlock switch) solved the issue.

If that above diagnosis is correct, it looks like either 66-4D0 or 18-660B

Yea, I'd lean more towards Kung Fu's answer because it is happening in other Mazdas AND he is more familar with these than I am.

Never owned an NC. Search that engine code and Mazda Miata on Google and start reading.

You have the engine code, you have the make, model and engine. Google that and you will see alot of items show up in different message boards. Start reading through them. When you start finding similar issues, look for the solutions, if they bothered to post them up. It narrows down your options for solving the problem rather than just throwing parts at it. Or, just leave it at the dealership and let them milk off you.
