JUX asked if i could create something for the dimmer switch so i obliged him. I'm pretty happy with it. :D If you're interested in getting one for yourself, i ran off a small production run of 30 units. That's all i am doing until i can find time to make the cover plates to go with it. Update: This fits NB dimmer switches as well!!

15 x full knurls.
15 x full knurls w/ polished bands. (these are meant to be used with the upcoming cover plates)

You can buy it directly from the site: http://www.retromoderngroup.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=70
Use coupon code: "shipthis!" for free shipping. Sorry i can't offer more of a discount.
Here's a shot of the two types together:

Can't check out on the site. It says "No Shipping options are available. Please contact us for assistance!" and will not let me settle out the order. I think the shipping code takes away the shipping options or something?

Dear RetroModern,

Please stop making beautiful tactile shiny bits for switches that I don't have in my car anymore.

I don't want to have to explain to my wife why I've been compelled to buy a second roadster. . .

Many thanks

OPM

Gentlemen, the OpenCart e-commerce in its oem state is a bit retarded in the sense that it will take away whatever shipping method you choose at the end of the check out process. I've just completed a test purchase and it went through without the shipping charges. Sorry! I'm a newbie when it comes to this.
Dandy, you will be getting a big package.. (porn music) :D
Dear OPM, when i make my millions, ill ship you another NA so the wife doesnt hassle you.

You can make my package even bigger. However, I'm getting hung up on the delvery method again. The message I get is "Warning: No Shipping options are available. Please contact us for assistance!" Fix this for me and watch my package grow. Thanks.

I work as a Systems Administrator, so I did a bit of digging around. I tried several ways to get to final checkout, including ignoring shipping entirely. It always got me to the same step with the "No shipping options available". I turned to google and did what every sysadmin does best. I found that it is a fairly common thing with open cart.

http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?t=50946
http://fixbug.in/forum/43-opencart/509-opencartno-shipping-options-are-availableplease-contact-us-for-assistance

It may be as simple as a configuration issue, or an out-dated module.

I just ordered one of these dimmer switches and the A/C combo bout an hour ago, and had zero issues ordering. maybe it is just fate deciding who gets them and who doesn't?

From what I read about opencart, it is likely the configuration not accepting the entered locations as valid. Some seem to get through, others don't. Looks like florida is a big trouble state.

I received the invoice for $19.95, but I wanted the overlay with the extended portions, a $5 upgrade. I tried checkout again, but it was the same issue, so perhaps you can re-invoice me? Thanks.

OK, I received these today, and did not see anyone talk about the install yet.

1. First remove the metal anti-submarine panel under the steering column
2. Reach underneath the dash and push the dimmer switch control box outward, it should just pop out.
3. Disconnect the wiring harness.
4. Press in the side clips, and slide the outer retainer off of the box
5. Pull off the dimmer switch face. There are 2 clip on places on either short side, you may want to use a technical screwdriver to disconnect things without breaking them.
6. Carefully pull the inner workings out of the housing. The whole thing will slide out. you can use a small pair of needle nose pliers to pull the little metal bit on the corner.
7. Remove the roller knob. Be careful, there are small parts inside it.
8. You are going to have to sand down the original textured area on the knob. This is a VERY BLURRY pic to show you that they will not fit otherwise:
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8256/8700041648_c343627616_z.jpg
If you sand it down JUST ENOUGH, you will not need any glue to hold the new piece in place.
10. Re-install. Be sure to verify that the roller has full mobility before getting everything set up. You can install the knob interior bits incorrectly.

I followed DemonIAm's quick ten-step. It took me about an hour to sand, and I sanded it just barely enough so I had to use a block to press the new knurling over the old tab. Super tight.
All in all, I fucking love this thing. It just looks so nice once it is installed. I am amazed by the huge difference such a small thing makes.

Tony, thank you very much for the tutorial! I will be putting together a video as well to go along with those instructions as soon as i get my hands on another set. I totally forgot to do it when i was making the first one.

RuckkehrMiata, I'm glad you guys like it! Yeah, the knurls really gives the knobs a whole new feel. it feels a bit more substantial now vs the plastic feeling, wouldnt you agree? :D

Absolutely, in mine it even added just a bit of resistance to the rotation (likely from the added weight, which I realize is very small, but not negligent compared to the internal components), making it feel that much more solid.
In addition: It takes a part of the dash/car that generally goes so un noticed I have to look for where it is when I need to change it's setting, and makes it something quite attractive/noticeable.

RetroModern

unfortunately there is very little room to work with in that area so the tolerances are a tight. on my first one, i had to shave the bezel a bit to get the knob to rotate freely. I had to make the overlay a bit thinner to compensate. the thickness is .7mm +/-.01. the knurls added another .1mm. Making them by hand was a pain but so worth it.

With a dremel and a sanding drum, it took maybe 5 minutes. All installed and happy

I don't have a dremel anymore, I ended up using some drywall sandpaper to take most of the content off (by hand) and then some super fine grit jewelry sandpaper to finish it.
