What steering wheel do you have?
What hub do you use?
Why did you choose said combination?!

Nardi deep corn 330mm.
I wanted something that looks good, and was smaller. The primary reason I wanted a smaller wheel was so I could fit my left knee between the door panel and steering wheel as I'm 6'1". :P

Using OMP type WRC, 350mm. Wanted smaller steering wheel, had oem wheel and it was terribly big + now I have more room for knees and legs. Don't actually like that full body of wheel, drilled is nicer but ... was quite cheap and is solid :)

Momo Competition 350mm wheel on a Daikei hub. I wanted a smaller diameter wheel as I'm 6'0" and needed knee/leg clearance but I found that much less than 350mm interferes with seeing the gauge cluster, I got this particular wheel because phatmiata was selling it for a great price and I've loved every Momo wheel I've had. I got the hub because it's PnP, defeats the airbag light, and was locally for sale for silly cheap.

+1 on the ring. If your not sure, it's a thin metal ring that helps keep the horn in place.

Did this earlier this evening.
Took off the rubbery center on my S-limited wheel. Polished off the raised lettering on the steering wheel bolts and buffed 'em to a shine.
And lastly I used the horn from my Nardi Classic as the original horn button is raised up to meet the rubbery center part.
The plastic on the horn was pretty scuffed so that got a polishing as well.
I think it came out alright.

The picture contains a question for all who have counter sunk screws in their steering wheels.

I want to counter sink my screws on my Nardi 360 and curious about strength. Did your wheels come stock with the counter sunk screws? I wonder who would know the answer to this?

+1 Your Nardi wheel (if real) will have 6 mounting holes that are counter sunk. You can purchase the hex screws from many places...including Home Depot (stainless steel).

Lets assume that I do have a REAL Nardi wheel with the signature on the spoke and lets assume that I dont have countersunk screw holes and I have hex screws instead of flatheads. It would appear that your statement "all REAL Nardi wheels are countersunk" is not correct and shows a certain lack of knowledge on your part. At the very least some Nardi wheels come countersunk and some do not.
Now enough of the BS. The question was are countersunk Nardi wheels strong enough? If so I would like to do it to my polished aluminum Nardi wheel. If anyone has done this what strength flathead allen screws did you use or what strength flathead allen screws come with the countersunk Nardi wheels.
I look forward to your reply.

The sport Type-a and deep corn have the countersunk holes, the classics have the flat surface and hex head bolts, so you can fit the trim rings.

edit: The type-a and classic look exactly the same except for the countersunk holes and I assume they are made of the same metal, so I'd imagine countersinking the holes on the classic won't make it much weaker than the type-a, however it is not something that I would do, and I am not recomending that anybody else does it.

Barrym,

I didn't mean to imply anything, and I apologize if I misspoke. I have not seen every Nardi wheel ever made, but while I was looking for mine, everyone I saw had the counter sunk mounting holes. I have seen some disturbing videos of fake Nardi steering wheels that will bend with just a little pressure, and I wanted to make sure that IF there was a fake Nardi wheel, nobody would further weaken it by removing additional material. Again, I apologize.

Beautiful wheel I'll post mine what's a good host to upload pics? I have flickr but dnt know how to post them?.

click on the photo you want to use on your photostream, then click SHARE right above the photo then click the really long link, and paste it here. for example..

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/64631623@N06/6345386116/" title="Nardi Wheel w. T3/Garage Star Spacer by 6d5532105de07dec3e03020b95fa8979, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6046/6345386116_285e179fc6_z.jpg" width="640" height="480" alt="Nardi Wheel w. T3/Garage Star Spacer"></a>

then delete the unnecessary typing leaving only this

http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6046/6345386116_285e179fc6_z.jpg

which would result in this..

This is a somewhat relevant thread to ask this question. I just got a Personal 320mm and the obligatory Hello Kitty horn button doesnt fit at all. The hole in the wheel is way bigger than the outer ring of the button. Are Personal horn button holes larger than Nardi,Momo's etc? I looked for a Personal button and 1. They're stupid expensive and 2. They do look like the outer trim ring is a bit larger than most of the buttons I've seen. Any ideas?

I also found this thread here of a dude that custom makes them for about $30: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/85-junior-sponsors/56905-speaking-rare-custom-horn-buttons.html but I hate to wait..

Another option is this: http://www.amazon.com/Mazdaspeed-Steering-Button-Protege-models/dp/B009VPRGO8/ref=sr_1_38?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1360337883&sr=1-38&keywords=jdm+horn+button

Finally got around to installing my Design Giugiaro Nardi wheel today. Not really sure where the wheel is from originally but I got it off ebay for $65, so I'm very happy with it. It is actually all black despite it looking somewhat brown in this photo. Still tons of work to do on the interior, but it's nice to have a wheel that isn't crumbling in my hands. Once I get the interior cleaned up a bit better I'll post follow up shots.

I don't know what your experience with wheels are, but how it's mounted should not affect it's sturdiness. I've had a Momo Race and various other Nardi and Sparco wheels... the good motorsports ones, and they never showed an inkling of flex.... even out of the hub. If I can bend the top part or wiggle it..... not a good sign of a quality product. I've also heard from a few people before that the prototipo is flimsy.

I'll try to get a video of it or something to show you guys. I'm like 98% it's authentic momo...

I own 2 Prototipos. One is a recent one from when they started selling them again (dated 2009 on the back). One is from 1978. Neither flex.

Interesting though, you mention the leather being nice and soft? The leather on my newer Momo is pretty rough. Not very high quality. Nothing like my other wheels. I was shocked when I took it out of the box. The grip is also pretty damn thin. I don't love that wheel much, but it IS a solid wheel. No build issues. Just don't like the thin grip and poor leather.

Another vote for Fototipo. :(

here in Italy momo sell it for approx 200€+VAT but is easy to find some "prototopo"(?) for 110-130€.... i think there are a lot of copies on the internet.

the good part of living here where almost all the best steering wheels were made is that yesterday i found this:

http://www.mx5italia.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24802&d=1381680607 http://www.mx5italia.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24803&d=1381680630

i quickly recognised the diagonal cut between the two bottom holes and the shape of the spokes. u got it? it's a wooden version of the RS watanabe falcon.
after google the signature i didn't find anything but I discovered the RS watanabe falcon has a "made in Italy" on the back exactly like mine.
i suppose this come from the same factory

Just won a clean jdm/oem wheel. I think it'll go nicely with my 1028 style interior, stitching will match the shift/ebrake boots. I've never been extremely fond of the actual 1028 Momo, I think it would be more at home in a 1.8 interior, while the oem Momo is more at home in the 1.6 interior.

I picked up a Nardi Design Giugiaro wheel off of eBay a few months back:

http://i.imgur.com/R9754A9l.jpg

I really know nothing about it other than it's the same diameter as stock and a very similar wheel appears in the first Lamborghini SUV, the LM002:

Got this from Yahoo JP.:japaneseflag: The Moto-Lita is my fav wheel and the price was right. I kinda had an idea something would be wrong with it based on the price but the pix looked good. Got it from the Post Office today and opened the box as soon as I got home. There was a urine smell inside the box that got stronger as I unpacked the wheel. Now I know why this thing was for sale, some cat, or maybe a skunk, marked its territory all over this wheel. :fp:
The leather was removed (a fact I didn't notice during the bid) I assume to remove the smell but its embedded in the rubber. So now I get to try my hand at reconditioning a Moto-Lita.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the musty feline pheromones?

Just so you are aware the mazda boss is not 100% plug and play. It would be if your car did not have an airbag. The non airbag miatas have a different method of activating the horn and they lack and airbag.
I removed the metal ring from the back of the hub as a American cars use a different setup.
I had to drill a massive hole in my hub to fit the airbag/horn connector through. Then I used the garage star airbag defeat wire. Then I wired up the horn to work with the horn button.

By far the hardest part was drilling the hub.
Also you might need a spacer as the wheel might sit too close to the wiper arm stalk.

Well I tried all types of cleaners, detergents, combos of cleaners, even brought in a witch doctor and in the end it was vinegar what did the trick.
So if a male cat ever sprays your car, :mad-new: after you've killed the darn thing, skip the Febreze and go straight to the vinegar.

If you don't have it already, get google translate for your phone or tablet, that's what I use for things like that. It can translate from your handwriting so you just need to copy the characters onto your screen and let it do the work.

I wanted something a little different then a MOMO or a Nardi wheel.
The first minor inconvenience are the polished spokes…they kind of reflect the desert sunshine…! OOPS! I'll order a new wheel with black anodized spokes.
And the second…I have the Mazdaspeed Motor mounts installed. The vibration travels right up through the steering column to the wheel. Amazing how much vibration 10lbs of airbag steering wheel absorbed. Solved that problem with lightly padded gloves.
The rivets may not be everybody's liking…but I like the look.

Just received my Nardi Classico back. I have no time recently to work on my projects, so I sent it to be professionally done.

The black stripe didn't come out super straight, but the wood has so much depth now, removing the old yellowing varnish made it darker, and it's sooooo smooth, I can't stop touching it.

Does anyone know anything about this wheel? I bought it because I really like the looks of it and it looks like it would be comfortable and be a nice change of pace for my interior.

It is made in Italy and branded "SWM" and the hole pattern appears to be the same as Nardi wheels.

From what I have researched it is/was a subsidiary of Raid not 100% on that though.

I got my wheel installed and scrounged an old 1991 NA shift knob and parking brake handle that I refurbished some years ago and were just sitting in a drawer in the garage. None of the three match, but I like the way it warms up the interior looks wise and they all feel great.
