Hey guys I just got a 91 miata and ever since I got it the idle has been kinda funky. At first it was to low, then to high, then at 1050 then at 800. so I pulled the throttlebody off and cleaned away, I couldnt get the iac off, the screws were to stripped :/ but now the idle is consistant but at 1500 I double checked everything and its all plugged in and functioning. Ideas?

Well have you adjusted the idle set screw? It is on the intake manifold right next to the throttle cable. That is generally what allows someone to set idle.

Did you clean off the seal surface on the inside of the TB? That can do it.

I used TB cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clear the stuff out. And the idle screw is turned all the way down.

Pull the TB off and hold it up to a light source and see if you can see light around the TB blade, if so buy a new TB.

Bad IAC. Those screws attaching it are notoriously soft. The best way to get them off is to clamp vicegrips on the heads AND use a screw driver at the same time. You are going to have to drill off the heads if they are stripped. IACs are expensive new. Try looking for a used one or refurbish yours.
