I have a racing beat. I bought it lightly used. My only problem was during install I had trouble getting it past the steering rod.

For some reason tapatalk is telling me it is an invalid image file.

I got a factory one, but I had an OBX on my previous Miata. Phatmeister has pics of it, I think. I liked it, but paired with the Enthuza exhaust, it was LOUD!

I've got a Racing-Beat on my 99. I'm not sure I would go with anything else, unless I found a Maximworks for really cheap. Not sure on the power gains with this header, but I do know it's easy to install vs some of the OBX headers I've worked with.

Currently on the hunt to find a shop that will have it Ceramic coated by the time I arrive in SoCal so I can throw it on my car and be able to drive to VA in peace.

I had a RB 4-1 on my first Miata and the thing was fantastic. Hoping the Riceland I've got waiting to go on now doesn't disappoint too much. By the time it falls apart I should have budget for another RB.

Rusted out Fujitsubo 4-2-1 Header. Gave my car such a bassy boom down low, torque went up a bit too. But that may just be my butt dyno. Installation was fairly simple, as it was already modded for a US car. Even came with the EGR block off plate.

What is this vodka wash you speak of?

To avoid having fingerprints, etc. burn into the manifold, you rub it down with alcohol so it is perfectly clean. Just before you fire it up for the first time you rub vodka all over the manifold. As it burns off it'll turn the manifold into a pretty colour i.e. the nice gold colour mine came out in. Should probably point out that this will only work on a new manifold and you only get one shot at it (no pun intended).

I have a Brospeed... and crap I could be wrapping it now, that reminds me. It cracked all the way through in 4 or 5 places after I right after got it. I had a local redneck weld it up for $5 and its held up great for two years. If it gets messed up again, I'm definitely going with the racing beat 4-1, but in reality I could use much more flow..

I have owned both the OBX and the Raceland headers. My first car the OBX header was installed with the new engine so I don't recall any fitment issues, as the motor was not bolted in. when I installed the race land header I had to have someone underneath the car move the transmission out of the way so that the header plans would fit in between the transmission and the body.

Fujitsubo 4-2-1 totally unmodded so it just dropped into my roadster. the finish however was horrid it had clearly seen daily use so I got some 60 grit, some 800 and my polishing kit and spent a day turning it from orange to a decent silver. its still not perfect but it looks the part.

I have an obx header that I had ceramic coated by a local shop. after installing it on my 93 Miata with 94 1.8 motor the header sat firm against the transmission tunnel and made a very loud rattle sound. so I removed motor again used a 2.5 lb hammer and bent the tunnel where it was rubbing and used a socket to put a dimple on the header as well. it now fit perfectly but to remove and install this header the easiest way to do it was to have an engine lift and kinda install header along with motor at same time. Would I recommend this header to anyone. HELL NO. Sorry no pics of it but someday I will pop the hood and take one lol.

i have a racing beat on my 1.6 with a high flow cat and a straight through exhaust. it was loud, backfired a lot and served its purpose. ideally i'd like to sell it off though because i have other plans. it's a nice part that held up great so far. i made sure to use the double layer metal RB gasket when i installed it, and it's probably the only header i'd consider if i were going to build another 1.6.

Riceland for over two years now. I've had it off and back on at least 5 times. Doesn't look the greatest at the rear flange ( dark grey color ) but for the price and performance I can't complain. Shes seem to have no issues handling the new power and higher revs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,so.....every month I get out of her is $$$ saved.

Sorry to thread jack but I figured everyone in this thread would know. With a header install what gasket is everyone using and is anything needed to support this mod like tuning or anything else?

DK Wolf

I wouldn't bother with a tune. Its bolt on (depending if its jdm or usdm header). Only get a tune if you really want to if youre itb or supercharged.

I've got a mazdaspeed sitting waiting to go on once I get a new cat for it.

On a side note, if you have a used header that's has the normal baked on dirt and crap what is the best product to use to clean it to make it look more presentable?

11lbs on my scale. many many thanks to Rod at tetsuyagarage! the issue i face is keeping EGR for class and this header has no provision for it.

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/mw-header-00.jpg

stock manifold, heat shields, and front pipe weigh in at 26.5lbs on my scale. pretty excited for over 15lbs off the front end and some added power.

so the header and new EGR were "installed" to make sure there would be no fitment issues and to give myself a preview of the EGR addition. i was able to slip the header in easily by myself and it doesn't appear to come close to contacting anything.

the bracket that holds the stock front pipe to the bell housing needs to be removed. the bracket welded on to the maxim header does not reach the same mounting location like i thought it would. i don't think there will be any issues caused by not being able to bolt it down here. for my own future reference, i found the torque specs of the bell housing bolts to be 48-65 ft-lbs. if you need, more torque specs can be found here (http://www.miata.net/garage/torque.html)

the O2 sensor is a little further down stream between the collector and the flex pipe compared to the OE sensor location, but there is plenty of slack in the wiring harness and plenty of room for the O2 sensor to fit where it ends up right next to the transmission fill hole

The new EGR pipe doesn't end up perpendicular to the header like the 99-00 pipe did. it is angled toward the center of the car and also perhaps even slightly downward. i'm going to want at least a 2" fitting so that i can cut and angle it properly. i'd really prefer if the welder (whoever i find to do it) could see it all in person

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/mw-header-01.jpg

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/mw-header-02.jpg

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/mw-header-03.jpg

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/egr-01.jpg

was not able to find a bung in time and get that sorted so the stock manifold and front pipe are back in the car. this saga is to be continued...

so recall here's a pic of the header installed. there is a bracket built into the header that doesn't appear to go anywhere...

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/mw-header-02.jpg

so i designed a bracket and a friend of mine helped me cut and drill it

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/header_bracket-00.jpg

after some final filing down by me to get it to fit the bell housing appropriately, plus some hardware from home depot, here it is installed. sorry about the poor photo quality.

http://www.discardedmedia.com/scsi/cr/header_bracket-01.jpg

i may add a split washer between the nut and the flat washer if i get un-lazy

I have heard of fitment struggles with the OBX headers. If you want something solid, the RacingBeat header s tough to beat. There isn't much noticeable power difference among them. I know Emilio@949 Racing put up some dyno numbers comparing a few vaunted brands, it was negligible (price vs power).

I installed an obx in my 93 miata with 1.8 swap. Also helped a friend install a raceland on a 90 with 1.8 swap. And both of them were a complete pain to install. After install the obx was hitting the transmission tunnel and both the tunnel and header had to be bent to stop them from rubbing on eachother.

I'm wanting to get my header wrapped once I get my car back this week. Do any of you have some feed back with using them? I currently run a Racing beat manifold on my NA6.

I have previously used a Maxim works, Fujitsubo and Cusco powerball. The maximworks seemed to give me increases at top end whilst the Fujissubo FGK gave me low down. The FGK was probably my favourite of them all, it was a lovely piece of kit.

I had it mated with a buddy club spec 2 though which as you can imagine was a little on the loud side.

I'm a musician (multi instrumentalist) for 30 years so sound is most important to me VS a 2 hp gain or a shiny thing under my bonnet

Currently I have a Fujitsubo in my 1.8 that came with the car.

I dislike it as it sounds too subtle and flat. It goes through stock cat to Borla muffler ... Very unexciting at idle and at high rev , sound wise I would call this "The Bland Combo" even stock car sound better at high revs also , I know the Borla has a lot to do with it too but someone else said the Fujitsubo is low pitched in a previous post here.

My last setup screamed like a race car , high pitched & very throaty.

Was an Apexi "spiral " to a Car Make Corn's muffler... Will install after car passes inspection this week.
