I think is fair to say all NA miatas look really good with hardtop because of the lines of the trunk lid and overall the car. The NA trunk lid to be specific coincides with the line of the hardtop since it is pretty much flat similar to the lines of hardtop.

I think everyone in this board can agreed all NB front ends are sexy but the rear end is doomed and ugly as hell. Everytime I look at my car let's say from a front angle I get an erection but the disappointment sets in and depression every time I look at the trunk. The fact is the lines of the factory hardtop do not match the trunk lid well. The hardtop glass and lines are completely horizontal. in a straight line while the trunk lid has a raise curvature and taillights that look weird to me, the message I get is of a person with eyes problems, where eyes looking distorted facing away from each other. The NA miata doesn't have that problem. The rear end is beautiful. with garage vary panel or without it, it is still 100 times better looking than the NB.

I want to request someone with photoshop experience to photoshop a factory NB with hardtop with a flat trunk lid. I believe the flat trunk lid will actually help the NB look better. Excluding the tail lights, I think a NB with flat trunk lid with hardtop will actually enhance the look of the car. I can begin posting pictures here for reference. Perhaps some of you with photophop experience can help me envision what I am trying to say. If not, I can speak to my brother to see what he can do. Still this is something hardly seen in the NB. It would be nice to see a revised NB miata...

EDIT: In the 2001 through 2005 MAZDA change the tailights and added a flat trunk lid spoiler and lower rear bumper spoiler to make the rear more linear similar to the NA. The MAZDASPEED miata is a good example of this redesign concept. Please see picture of those cars.

I actually love my NB with the hardtop and I don't really see there being a real problem with the flow. But that's my opinion.

i see what you mean. to each their own, really. what about like, a flat ducktail spoiler that would eliminate the raised section in the middle?

Actually doesn't look too bad. I was thinking of a tail where it's raised the same height not just flattened out. With just the soft top though, I like the curve in the middle; kinda accentuates the curves of the rear quarter panel.

looks good either way, but I still kinda like the bumps and curves of the NB, makes it look more 3rd gen RX7-ish

I like it flat, which is why I went with the MSM spoiler :)

That bump in the center of the trunk was part of the signature for their design language at the time.

I can take that hardtop off your hands if it bothers you that much. :teehee:

ja ja! The bump in the trunk looks to me more like a pregnant woman. Thank you, I'll keep the hardtop and buy a flat trunk lid.

My NB1 had an MSM spoiler when I got it but I agree with this. However, there are some NBs (typically not wearing a hardtop) that look awesome with the stock lid or a full blown duckbill lid.

Well after a very long time of wishing and day dreaming I am finally the owner of a S2 Racing flat trunk lid for NB, shipping from Japan was extremely fast just 5 days in total. Unbelievable!!

Many thanks to invert @ Rev9

Excellent fitment, I waited a year for you to make me the alterna trunk lid for NB, I still would like to see a copy of your design, I think it would look awesome.

Cool pick up on the trunk with the shape you wanted. I just think it's begging for a ducktail type spoiler, now.
