Okay I'm running 15x9 wheels and have been on 225/45 RS3's for a while now. I'm in need of new tires and am starting to look at my options in 225/45s. What's you experience with these? How much mileage did you get out of them. These will be DD tires but will hit the track once or twice.

Toyo R1R
Toyo R888
Hankook RS3 (not available right now)
BFG Rival

I've been running 15x9's with Rivals for ~8000 miles now, with one rotation at ~4000 miles and my rear tires are pretty much at the wear bars. I'm going to rotate them one more time and maybe run them another 4000 or however long I feel comfortable. These miles were on my MSM with 180whp and a torsen, pretty much always driving spiritedly, with some slides and donuts in there somewhere.

My buddy is running 205/50r15 Federal 595 RSR's on 15x9's and they look very similar in size to my 225/45 Rivals. The Federals are also dirt cheap at ~$75 per tire and they have a tread wear rating of 140 compared to the Rivals 200.

You do NOT want R888s for daily driving.. they will drive you nuts! The drumming/droning sound of them was enough to make me not even want to drive to/from the track on them! They are so damn loud that it sounds like you have a really bad wheel bearing or 2 (and would mask any wheel bearing sound even if you had a bad wheel bearing)

I'd try the R1Rs myself if it were me.

I happen to have a brand new pair (already heat cycled) 225 45 15 RS3s if you only need a pair I might consider selling mine for what I paid (I am going to go with 205 50 15s instead myself this year/season on 15x7.5 wheels instead)

Cool. Thanks for the info. Any chance you might have a pic of your buddy's tires so I could see the stretch? I'm trying to keep it to a minimum.

Yeah I've been thinking of going that route. But the rival has me second guessing. I just hate the look of the tread. Lol!
Thanks for the offer but I need all 4.

^ what scares me about the rival is all the tread splicing reports.. enough to scare me away anyway.

Rival Tread splicing photos example:

I'm a big fan of the R1R. It's a continuation of Toyo's line - T1S -> T1R -> R1R. They're great street tires, not too loud on the highway, awesome in the rain, and can handle track days extremely well. They're also one of the lighter tires you can buy for the performance.

The 205/50 Federals are on the grey car I posted above, but I also have a few more pics I can show you of the stretch.

^ thanks. From the looks of it they may be a little more of a stretch than I would like for the setup I'm running. But good to keep in mind.
