Some fresh JDM shizzle arrived today in London, England from Suzaka, Japan.

Given my pitcrew build I had been looking for a trunk lid to offer something different. Whilst I love my ducktail spoilers and have the YSCC (high version) on the Corns and the Axis Power Racing carbon lid on the silver car I wanted something else for this car.

I considered the M2 1028 replica carbon trunk lid but I kept coming back to the RS Active trunk lid on this car in Japan as seen in the photos below.

I then saw Malibu Q's lovely yellow car with the Alterna Racing trunk lid and his write up on Alterna Racing in Japan, which was a great read and inspired me to find out more about the company.

End result is I ended up purchasing this trunk lid. Super fast delivery from Japan from Alterna Racing.

Here is mine in Japan. It is a trial product.

And a sneak pic form opening the box today, till try a test fit in the next day or so and aim to get painted with the Kanspo hardtop.

Thanks. Appreciate your feedback. This is a stage 1 as more radical plans will help later on but hopefully this will be the summer of the subtle trunk lid. My unit is a trial/sample unit from the owner of Alterna Racing so needs some finishing but I'm keen to bolt it up and see what its like!

Good choice, but I'm a bit concerned about your trunk lid.
The rear corners look like they've been cut off odd.
Hoping it's an optical illusion.

I have to admit you write ups on Alterna Racing were key to this so thanks for your help. The product is a trial unit by the owner of Alterna Racing and so not a finished product. Suffice to say the owner of Alterna Racing has been more then fair with this product and his help is much appreciated.

I've done a test fit and around the rear fenders it's all fine and the quality of the fittings underneath is great. I will see if I can get the edges sorted without the car being left with the bodyshop as would like to get it on ASAP. If the car needs to go in as a reference point will be a couple of months away.

To complete this thread I got the Alterna Racing trunk lid back from the body shop yesterday.

I am very happy with this boot lid as like the subtle lines followed from the rear wings that sweep into the middle of the trunk lid and slant towards the rear panel.

The quality of the fitment around the rear wings and to the hard top is very good. Also the underside is nicely done and the fixings all good quality.

This particular trunk lid is a sample/trial unit that Alterna Racing had in stock and can be seen on their web site used in various photos. I believe it may have been one of the first made as has been used as a test mile so as such the finish is not as good as a off the shelf item from the company. However the owner of Alterna Racing was very generous on this item so I was more then happy to take the trial unit.

For those interested the trunk lid can be purchased for approx 28,000 yen and shipping is approx 12,000 yen with ems express from Japan to the United Kingdom (so may vary elsewhere).

Hi Gianni, I contacted the owner of the company direct and am now friends with him on facebook. A real gent to deal with and car enthusiast. Price listed is the direct price from Alterna. Cheers James.

Looks fantastic. Well done.

Thank you and once again much appreciated your write up on Alterna Racing. It sparked my interest and appraicate you taking the time to share with wider mx5 communtiy.

Thanks mate. Happy with it and whilst it is a sample/trial unit/test mule product impressed by the overall fitment, etc. A finished product would be excellent.

Thanks mate. I like the way it drops in from the rear wings. Bought a Pitcrew rear end but may have to wait on fitting as really like this look!

More photos here for those interested (and of the Kanspo hardtop).

Thanks. I am happy with the trunk lid. Owner of Alterna Racing was very fair with this trunk lid and whilst it still needs a bit more work to be perfect will do this when the car is left with the body shop.

Its a nice look, but maybe because its a prototype part, there is some weird gappage between the boot lid and the GV panel; a strange void, which is also uneven from side to side, Does it still look like that with a stock rear panel?

Yeah its because its a test mule/sample part that the gappage is slightly off. The body shop need the car in to tidy that which I sort at a later stage.. This part fits perfect elsewhere but was used I think to test other ideas as both edges were also cut back, etc, which the bodyshop were able to sort without the car being in situ with them.

Owner of Alterna explained this all before I took the sample product. The owner of the business is a true gent to deal with and as such given what it owes me I am more then happy to spend some time tidying the edges.

Love the rear shot of the car. The trunk lid works so well with the Kanspo hardtop. Definitely an inspiration for the future of Jazz.
