So I got this message on Flickr Mail…….

Hi Randy,

My name is Mark Jordan (former Miata NA designer) and I am assisting in the production of an upcoming 25th anniversary of the Mazda Miata. It will be published by Motorbooks and is expected to be introduced in Oct. 14.

There are some wonderful photos you have complied. I would like to ask your permission to use some of the NA Miata ads with the book. You would of course get photo credits.

Thank you.

I sent him a link to the forum, and after viewing some of the threads he now wants to use some photos from the Magazine Thread,
http://mazdaroadster.net/showthread.php?1984-NA-Miata-MX5-Print-Ads-(Various-Magazine-ads-for-1989-1997-Miata)

even though they are from my collection of old ads they are really not mine per say. Ah well, I will use this as another networking connection.........

Mark Jordan's name has been around for a long time, working with him will definitely put you in some old Miata world company, corporate ties, that kind of thing. All good Randy

The ads may not be "yours", but vintage stuff like that can be VERY hard to find, as you know. If you're the one guy who bothered to keep good clean copies of something that nobody else has... you at least deserve credit (if not a little cash) for providing them. You're talking about a book that someone is having printed to make money. There's no reason you shouldn't ask for a small slice for your contribution. But, at the very least "from the collection of Randy George of MazdaRoadster.net" would be a nice photo credit.

I emailed him about how the photo credit would read.........

Hi Randy,

How would you like your photo credit to read?

and of course my reply (thanks Loren) :teehee:

Update............. so they are getting down to the deadline on this and I just rescanned all the Mazda Miata ads for Mark Jones on this, now he says he wants to do a "History of the Miata" style book with Bob Hall & Tom Matano, and he wants my help getting all the images as I have most here in a 6" binder, LOL

This is VERY exciting for me as I have loved collecting all of the Miata ads over the years, just really love these cars, so this is just a real treat to even be mentioned in a book such as this. :frantic:

Okay that is all my Miata geek love for today hahhaha have a great day !!! Im going to scan in some of the Japanese print ads now and showcase those for everyone!!

Randy, you need to start working on your own book. Seriously.

And when you do, the fact that your name has been seen as a reference in these other books should help with sales.

Obviously, the "25th Anniversary", and "History of" are already being done... but your area of expertise is more in the high-end JDM modifications area. Come up with a topic for a book and get to writing! Why should everyone else cash in and not you?

Randy, here is a bunch of stuff from the 20th anniversary celebration at the R&D center in Irvine. I got some extra swag for participating in a focus group meeting and winning an award in the show. Most of it has been in a box since then. If you don't have these and want any of this stuff, let me know:

Album of items are here. (http://s237.photobucket.com/user/force_mccocken/library/Miatafest%202010)

Let me know if I can answer any questions.

Thanks, you guys in Cali have all the fun and the man Mazda HQ is right there. I am doomed here in FLorida, hahahha, only I can change that is to visit CA for the 25th anniversary and bump elbows with some guys out there.

Not in Cali anymore, BUT the coolest thing to do at Mazda USA HQ ( not the R&D center ) is Cars and Coffee. The C&C Irvine show there is probably the best collection of rare cars you will ever see at a public, free event.

Randy, I am surprised you haven't made SOCAL a family vacation yet to coincide with a rare public access Mazda R&D event. There is plenty to do for them while you get your geek on, them meet them later wherever they chose to visit.

Every city I have lived has its own unique car culture. Growing up in Detroit, it became a part of my life early on. I think because my father was involved in it there and my mother was involved in it in SOCAL (where she is from), it was just normal for my family.

Still, the car culture in SOCAL is special. It really is the Mecca regardless of what aspect or genre you are into.

There was a book sighing at Autobooks and Areoplanes in Burbank that I stumbled upon back in November.
