I've always enjoyed stripes and V8s in my project cars and before I painted my Miata it had both.

I planned on putting stripes back on either in gold or ghost gold using tinted clear but I'm liking the semigloss black so much I don't think I want to add more color to it now.

So I am thinking to go really subtle by either buffing or wet sanding the stripes on. What I'd like your thoughts on is it possible to get either buffing or sanding uniform and clean against fine line tape and which should I do, buff, sand or nothing?

Thanks!

Do you want to add or remove gloss on the stripes?

Often flat colors will buff up shiny. I once had a car that I painted a flat color then later polished the paint up. Try some cutting compound on a discreet spot. You won't have heard of the Australian brand that I use so this is the 3M one.

When I am preparing a panel for a blended paint repair I use a gray scotchbrite and scuffing paste to remove the gloss. Rubbing it in with a rag will probably be aggressive enough to remove gloss.

Second on the buffing the stripes on. Much easier to mask off and buff the semi gloss or flat paint to a glossy finish.

Reach out to Rogue, he may have some useful knowledge and input.

I'd spray clear on it.
I don't think you could get a consistent finish, and even if you did, maintaining it would be a chore.
I'm putting suede black R-pack stripes on one of mine, (there all Black) as soon as it slows down.
I like that look.
Once upon a time (05) I had suede flames on my 93LE. ;)

Those suede flames were pretty killer
