I had lifter noise so I bought brand new lifters and put them in, now after being in storage for the winter the noise is back, should I change the oil, what is the best oil for 1.8 Miata, and should I add an additive?

upon researching this situation for mine, I use Rotella T6 to quiet it. I'm surprised it's already back after replacing the lifters.
On an unrelated note, Love your car. Saw it at Werner Mazda when getting my 3 worked on. I'll likely stop by once mine gets out of storage. Nice that the dealership has 2 NA owners working there!
Thank you all the Miata’s are starting to come in now that we are getting some good weather, I’ll try that and let you know thanks
The storage period drained them. Let the car idle, it should be alright.
Thank you that’s what I thought but I tried that still noisy
How old is the oil the car stored with?
I changed it right before I stored it that’s when I did the lifters
What weight/brand oil did you use?
What filter did you use?
As Steven noted, sometimes the depressed valves push on some of the lifters over the winter and it could take several driving cycles to work out the air. If your filter drains back it could be pumping air into the lifters at start-up. Air can be compressed while oil cannot.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10-30 and a Mazda filter from Mazda
On my NA, I had better results stopping lifter tick with Rotella and Castrol synthetics. Mobil 1 was a bit more problematic in this regard, YMMV.
Motul 8100 5W-40 and 93 octane fuel got rid of the occasional lifter tick a couple of years ago. Car can sit for months and not tick upon first start.
I highly advise this combo:
Liqui-Moly Molygen 10W-40: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Liqui-Noly Hydraulic Lifter Additive: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Both of my 1.6s run great and keeps the lifters very quiet. I hear the stock injectors over any other naturally occurring miata motor noise.
I use Millers CFS 5w40 in both my 1.6s designed for hydraulic tappets/lifters. No issues even after a winter in storage. It's quite expensive though!
