DIY Roadster Door bars arrived yesterday. Shipping was quick; only took 2 days.
Door bars have been a must have part of mine but never got around to purchasing them. $259 shipped from DIY Roadster seemed like the way to go. Everything I read gave rave reviews.
I Figured they'd work best with my Lotus seats, not be too intrusive in the cabin, provide a bit of safety and stiffen this 26 yr old car.
Only got drivers side completely installed today. Took about hour and a half from start to finish. Air ratchet helped. Long arms helped. Jacking up back of car helped. Having Hard dog roll bar already installed helped. Genius idea to have one rear mounting bolt already attached to door bar helped. Miata floor pan was super thin and easy to drill through.
Not enough storage to take final photo. Will undercoat and seal up the bottom and inner fender well after passenger side is done.
Got in and out of the car a few times. Seems getting in and out isnt more difficult at all....just different. Car is already low and with lotus seats its hard enough to get out of as is. If anything the door bars help give a place to push off to get in and out. Seems like the bars may even help to not put so much abuse on the Lotus seats.
Complete win. Cannot wait to install the other side and drive the car. Sucks it's so close to snow fall here in buffalo. Car will be getting put away soon. :(

Don't give up now. Usually a light coat of paint/primer or something similar helps to bring out the imperfections. That's what I do. Then you have a guideline. Hope to see it finished soon.

Got the car out today!! Beautiful weather and a box full of parts. Great day to tinker with miata stuff.
First up, the rev9 m2-1002 pedals. Excuse dirty floor/gross mats.

This is what the turret looked like...minus the delrin cup. I hadnt done maintenance on it since I had planned to do the shift kit. Doubt any maintenance was done the 24 years before I got the car. No wonder there was so much noice, whine and vibration. Added a bunch of fluid to it. Will check it again in a couple days.

Installed.

With carpet and shift knob. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...82b47beb25.jpg
Holy shit. This thing is amazing. Looks incredible. Shifts even better. Stevie wonder could install it. Miataboner!!
Next was window switches and my custom console.

Love how this turned out. Wiring loom flattens and hides nicely under the GarageStar console delete carpet. Plenty of length. (Thanks for measuring / perfectly estimating Adam) Switches work great. Now to find a way to hold the console tight to trans tunnel. Maybe tomorrow. Right now it wants to lift up from wires and carpet; see my hand holding it down in the photo. Fits perfect then.
The window switches are in a great spot. Not at all uncomfortable to reach.
Tombstone came off and revlimiter HVAC plate went on with the trim ring.Amazing. Didnt think it would look as good as it does. (Am still biased to my old RS products AC plate that i regret getting rid of). Adam's pieces all work so well together. And work great with the GarageStar knobs and sliders. The look is complete. I love it.

With the new switches and their location, it was time to do away with the Omgpham tombstone blockoff cap with window switches. I really enjoyed this piece. I think its the perfect tombstone cap offered. Such a neat idea and well executed. Well out came the pham switch plate and in went a piece of styrene plastic. I traced the omgpham piece and cut it out haggardly , drilled the holes, and painted it black. This is temporary as I have a switch-less omgpham plate on order.

See installed photo above.
Then came time to do Carbon Miata door handle set. Wanted to do passenger side first as an experiment to see how it all works. Sure glad I did. No instructions included. Email reply from CM said that once you see it it will make sense, you'll know what to do. No help or guidane. Ugh. Ok.
Well things immediately didnt go well. The screws included that were meant for the lock buttons were too large. Thank god my father saves every nut and bolt ever. Really, forever. Luckily I found tiny screws in proper thread pitch to hold the lock buttons on. And they were torx. Tiny torx. Again, luckily my father had this tiny ass torx bit to fit. And spare screws in case. Problem averted.
Mind you, I hadn't even started to install anything. Was just trying to inventory pieces and figure out how to install and where pieces went.
The door panel came off. OEM Door handle came off after photos were taken. A clip holding the handle rod to the handle broke. Fuuuuuu
Then to figure out how to swap the handle....well the OEM pivot points were rivets that would just spin upon drilling. Had to carefully vice grip them while drilling them in the drill press. Pain in the ass to remove but the new hardware went in smoothly. A few puzzle pieces later with trial and error and it was going back together.
The broken clip was an issue I temporarily solved with a zip tie holding the handle rod up by connecting it to the lock button rod. Picked up new generic clips from autozone on the way home to ghetto rig it but Ill need OEM mazda clips for reassurance.
Got it all figured out and tightened it all down. Test try. Somethings rubbing. Fuck. The bottom of the handle that holds the rod was rubbing the door skin. Ugh. A few washers later and issue solved. One behind each screw that holds it all in the door frame. A little bit of clear plastic trimming helped too.

Looks great. Feels great. Install was a bitch on passenger side.
My DIY door panels decided to come unglued so no more door panel on that side for a while lol they need to be redone anyway when I install the LE Speaker panels.
Didn't get to the driver's side handles as I ran out of time. Now that I know what Im doing and have proper screws, tools and know-how it should go pretty quick. Will also buy proper door lock rod clips from Mazda.
Missed this car.

Ohh, and what is lurking in the garage? Is that a 65?
Pedals are not slippery...gas pedal probably will be depending on shoe choice and moisture. Brake and clutch are GRIPPY. My daily driver Speed3 has a slippery gas pedal and its a non issue for me.
A little rev matching but no heel toe yet. Just trying to get used to new shifter today.
63...convertible. My dads.

Here it is installed. Six pieces of double sided tape on the backside hold it on pretty sturdy.
Position is a bit off center. Will re-position it later.
Key fits fine. Turns through each position without issue. The machined angled inner circle allows key to be inserted all the way.
Great looking piece that really cleans up that ignition area.
