V8 Miata and a Porsche 991.2 GT3

What does a V8 Miata and a Porsche 991.2 GT3 have in common?

Besides both being proudly prepared by The Winning Formula Inc. in Louisville, KY they are both capable of lapping Putnam Park in 1 minute, 9 seconds in 90 degree heat! It's fun to be involved in two hugely differing approaches to cracking the 1:10 barrier at Putnam Park!

Ride along with Pervez Randelia II and I for the afternoon advanced group lapping with the Kentucky Region Porsche Club of America at Putnam Park Road Course.

Fast laps are 1:11.5 starting at the 3:15 mark and 1:11.3 starting at the 6:55 mark. Both laps are slowed by point-bys and throttle lifts to maintain a respectful gap during a public lapping event. Amazing how effortless a 1:11 is in these two beasts!

I think those are the 295/35/15 Hoosiers on 12" 6UL.
Looks like a well sorted car. I think I'm almost there.

Looks the part; but aero-wise, it could be much much better

Sure! It is not bad by any means, but I would do things a tad different. Also everything is based on an educated guess by studying a couple of pics, so not 100% certain, but this is what I would change.

Front bumper opening seems unnecessarily large, inducing drag that could be avoided. Stacked canards on the sides are a bad idea; they are too close together and one right above the other. The suction generated by the lower side of the upper one is counteracted by the positive pressure generated on the top surface of the bottom one, essentially cancelling each other. Rear wing endplates seem a bit on the small side. Rear wing seems to mount on the trunk lid, which I am sure it deflects under load (if not, the wing is not producing enough downforce). Rear wing stays could pass through the lid a bit more forward and could be swan-neck style to increase wing efficiency. Also, rear wing seems too far back with respect to the car. That's a good thing (clean airflow) but it induces a moment around the rear tire contact patch lifting the nose. Eyeballing it, it would need a larger front splitter/more front aero, but I assume balance is good that way (which actually supports my comment on the rear wing not producing enough downforce).

I hope this did not came out too harsh, just a constructive criticism on my part. Do you know if the car has any sort of flat floor? Could not spot anything.

Wing goes thru the trunk so I'm sure it is chassis mounted. :winky: Maybe the aero is mild/the way it is due to class restrictions? I dunno.

Chad are you sure? There's a pic with the trunk lid open, and the wing still on it, so...
Still, as mentioned, my comments are just an educated guess on what's going on from a couple of pics, so I may be wrong.

:fp: I was till you second guessed me. :lol: Yup see the pic you are talking about BUT I have seen setups where it is mounted to the trunk and the are supports that it rest against when closed that are chassis mounted. So totally unsure at this point. :lol:
