I remember doing the same job a few years back. It wasn't fun. I wish I could have stripped and powder coated the control arms at the time. Oh, well... I guess I have more incentive to upgrade to V8R tubular arms some day. The poly bushings really help make the car responsive. That reminds me I need to pull the rear upper control arm mounting bolt and grease that because I couldn't fit a zerk fitting on that one.
I’ve done a number of these, so it’s not so bad to me anymore. These were pretty easy, but clearancing the access for the zerks was a little tedious.
I suppose an update is in order. I may forget a few things, so let me try to go through the last two months.
There was the leaky trunk that I repaired/refurbished. There’s a whole thread on that elsewhere on this forum.

Great updates!
Smooth driving technique!
Passing a 370Z, Mustang GT, BRZ = PRICELESS
Great pict of you in the back yard.
One of our hounds is poop-shy. If he sees us watching him, he will move behind a tree or bush to block our view. The hound pictured, not so much. ;)Quote:

I bought a replacement through a little research (and a bit of hope). It a Centric 'premium' hub. $84 through Rockauto, Amazon was a tad higher. When it arrived, I was relieved where the country of origin read:

Attachment 19429
Attachment 19430
Attachment 19431
Attachment 19432
Look at the shitty stress risers in the machining of the old hub, This is clearly aftermarket:

The Centric unit came with the stake nut too!, 45 minutes later, it was on and all buttoned up. Unfortunately, the dust cap was destroyed removing it. Fortunately, the dealership is close, so I ordered it on my lunch break and it will be in tomorrow morning. $5, but better than what most other places were charging + shipping and delivery time.
BTW, the dust cap p/n is B455-26-071, if anyone knows of a generic aftermarket dust cap readily available, please let me know!
That LR axle finally started protesting more vigorously. Aftermarket, off the shelf that the PO installed.

Fortunately, like Los Angeles, you can get virtually any Miata part you need in Atlanta, 24/7.
Custom newly rebuilt OEM axle, done locally. Race-tested and proven by other racers, $110.

Everything came apart very smoothly (I love Southern cars), bearings and hub look to be fine.
Got a wheel seal too. Will wrap it up tomorrow.

Wrapped up the axle install, no drama.
Picked the wheel seal:

Used a mallet and a block of wood to seat it:

Applied anti seize to the axle splines for future repairs:

Installed the axle into the knuckle assembly. This way is much easier than trying wrestle the axle in on the car. (It’s two bolts to remove the knuckle, people.):

A little grease on the pumpkin side:

Threaded on the stake nut:

Moved the axle & knuckle assembly back to the car and seated the bottom bolt of the knuckle to the RLCA first, making sure the other side of the axle was started in the diff, then seated the upper knuckle bolt to the RUCA:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...525a568d35.jpg
Used the handle of a plastic dead blow mallet and a 3# hammer to seat the axle in the diff. The soft plastic doesn’t tear the axle boots.:

All seated:

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...259fcb5c1b.jpg
Torque the knuckle bolts to 50 ft/lbs, hand the rotor, caliper, pads. Install wheel. Lower car, torqued the stake nut to 205 ft/lbs, staked it, torqued the wheel lugs, DONE! Took about 45-60 minutes.

Noise gone, all good!
Good tip about the mallet handle.
It also helps to rotate the axle via the hub. A couple hits, rotate the hub 90 degrees, repeat.
Bigger project ahead, but for now I have restored and painted a cowl panel. This was given to me for free with minimal damage. I repaired a small crack in the center, glued the weatherstripping to it, and prepared to install it.
My old one was broken at the typical location on the right side. A trip on the freeway last week sent the the broken piece into the Wild.

A good friend gave me one off a car he was parting out. I sanded it, cleaned it, prepped the tiny fastener covers for paint. I stuck the covers to a loop of tape, put everything on some old cardboard and took it out back to paint.

Looks great! What did you use to repair the crack? Mine is also cracked, and although I have already bought a new ORM replacement, I would love to give it a go.
