    Cool Oldekamp's build ('Grace')

This was the car on the used car lot:

We went to work. Brakes were priority #1. I got some new disc brakes (and pads of course) all round, from a specialty MX5/Miata-shop, which happened to be the biggest in the Netherlands and only 7 miles away from my home! What a coincidence..

Also, since everything was off, we grinded away all rust from the control arms, and used an anti rust treatment. After letting this settle for a day, a fresh coat of paint was applied. Also, there was some corrosion on the shocks, and since I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I wanted that gone aswell. However, when taking the springs/shocks off, the springs broke when we compressed them. They were far too rusty. So, I went back to that shop and got a set of new OEM springs all round. While at it, I decided to also mount braided stainless brake lines. Just because.

    Not for the faint-hearted:

I also chose to add 5HP by applying red paint to the calipers.

Rusty under-car shot I found to be cool for some strange reason..

Shocks clean and new springs mounted:

    Primer on the control arm:

Then we took on something bigger..

    My god this is awful..

New OEM exhaust heat shield, and a gas cap/trunk release lever set because my car came with only a gas cap release.

There.. this looks much better. Wasn't spray painted, but brushed on.. Father-in-law believed this would give a thicker coat, giving it a bit of extra

Anti rust treatment and aluminum paint for the underbody. Looks rusty on some places, but thats where the treatment does it's work.

    Back on her feet..

    More after the break!

Had a few spots behind the license plate panel that were rusted through the metal. Welded those..

    Silverstone to protect it.

Took the rear bumper and license plate panel to a "painter", some friend of my father-in-law. Told him it was 3L paint, apparently the man heard me say L3 instead. This was the outcome:

Back to the drawing board, genius!

A week later and finally painted in silverstone. Not entirely happy, but could be worse.. For me it's too much of a difference but this was probably the best he could do..

Gave her a bath and a wax, she looked so sad being all dusty..

The vertical strip between the triangular glass and the door glass had a few spots on it. Time to pull it out and see..

    O. My. God. This is the worst!

Cut away the rusty metal and welded in some new..

    Putting it back together..

Also decided to get rid of the nasty black goo (I looked it up, it's actually called 'Butyl') on the insides of the doors..
    Before:
    After:

If you want to do this yourself, roll it into a tiny ball and roll it over the rest of the stuff, until you got most of it. Then, use some WD40 to dissolve the leftover residue and do some aggressive wiping with an old rag.

I painted some engine parts.. I regret that now.. Looks horrid..

    Started sanding the valve cover:

Painted the front bumper structure because there were some ugly spots:

Started polishing some other bits.. Here's an example next to an untouched bit from a buddies car:

Way too much hours later, the valve cover:

Since the painter didn't ask much for the rear bumper and license plate panel, I reckoned I just let him do the complete front end aswell. It had some stone chipping I absolutely hated, so I decided to do it. Left is fresh paint, right is original, untouched door:

I let them bondo the holes in the bumper where the license plate used to be mounted, and bought replica R-package front and rear spoilers to be painted along aswell.

Getting her up in the air

Time do do a full underbody rust treatment now we can reach everything.

Since we wanted to replace the clutch release bearing, we also decided to do the clutch, this turned out to be a good call.

    Shiney new bits!

    Underbody now protected..

Back to the other garage box..

    Paint was ready..

With the help of some friends, we put the panels back on and aligned them well..

    On to the MOT..

    My girl passed! Yay!

At her new home: my own driveway.

Did a trunk lid swap at the miata shop (which I now also regret). It is a EUDM spoiler, original Mazda. I had a fellow Mazda mechanic look up the part number and he confirmed it was genuine. Never seen one before..

    Mounted the R-package spoilers..

When I arrived at work, I told them I had found some cheap JBL speakers which I mounted. My boss came to listen, and told me they were shit. I actually got a bit offended, but before I could say anything he showed me some of his old audi equipment. CDT Audio speakers, A/D/S amps, the lot. He told me he would be gifting me much of the equipment, but we should get some more recent speakers and a new sub. We will build a custom sub box so it isn't in the way, but we wanted to have a working system by the end of the day, so as it is, it's temporary.

I will be looking for original LE tweeters and take the grilles of those to use with my own tweeters to make it look like an OEM install.

    Specs:

DLS R6A Reference Compo set (from Sweden)
A/D/S 480MX amp (old school, but still has a hefty price tag)
    JVC KS-N60 crossover
    Kicker sub

    Sounds absolutely wicked!

    Cool rolling shot..

Also, back at the miata shop to show the finished car, Stey (also on here, friend of both Cermivelli and mine) made some pictures:

Also, I got myself some teardrop speaker covers and roadster sill plates. I am a bit of a JDM nut, so you can all expect to see a lot of JDM goodness whenever I have the chance of buying some. I will, for example, soon be mounting the Garage Vary nostalgic panel that's currently on Cermivelli's car.

I can't mount the teardrops yet, since I still have to source and retrofit some electric windows.

This was it for now, my next post will be regarding the future plans for my car.. Too much to name. To get an idea of the direction:

Custom interior upholstery, nakamae-inspired, Enkei RPF1's..

Ordered myself some TA Technix coilovers to replace the blown shocks, I mounted the front first because the rear control arms wouldn't cooperate. Then I went to a dutch miata weekend, driving halfway across the country to drink beer and have a bbq with the dutch owners I'd already known for so long. Fun to see them in person, turned out a great weekend with a nice spirited drive the next day!

Grace got a good clean, so automatically the morning after felt great.. The only reason I started the drive was because I won a trackway organized by a well-reputed car news blog in collaboration with BP (local gas station). I won 1 year of free BP Ultimate 98 octane fuel, maxed at €1250,-! This converts to about $1600, which is nice for a broke-ass student like myself.

    Squeaky clean.

We had a much longer drive to do than the others, but arrived first.

After a great lunch, others started arriving shortly.

    Next to a mint NB-FL.

    In a row.

Not as clean after driving half across country :gaga:

    On the way home.

Time to mount the coilovers on the rear. Needed to cut out a teeny tiny portion of the control arms to put in a new bolt to hold the bottom of the shocks. Don't worry, nothing major!

    Ride height is getting along.

I think I will drop it a tad bit more, and after that, off to get an alignment.. Again.. :thumbsup2:

Needed a replacement alternator 3 days before a big drift event hosted by Roadster Crew. There's 2 major Miata clubs in the Netherlands: MX-5 Owners being mostly the elderly (miata.net), Roadster Crew is just one big group of friends, most of which want to see crazy slammed cars. I don't really fit in.

I did the sticker designs for what will become a yearly event: Drift Mayhem. I’m also still working on the montage, which isn’t easy: I was supplied with 515 videos shot with DSLR’s, crappy phones, GoPro’s, you name it. Here’s a little teaser:

    http://youtu.be/3s6jsEbZwKA

Replacement alternator died within a month after the event. Did the swap for a second time with a friend. Then off the fire up the battery. Again..

Running fine now. Hope this one will last a bit longer..

First change of 2015: 370MM Nardi out of the Eunos Roadster V-Spec (Limited Edition).

    Before:

    After:

Shocked at how great this wheel feels. I was worried it might be too slippery for my taste, but one quick drive told me otherwise.

I got some pretty neat parts coming.. Hints:

    -Redness
    -Loudness

Also got myself a sweet deal on a S-Limited Nardi. It had quite some wear. I tried some deep leather cleaner, and some good old leather shoe polish. Heaps better now!

    Some Eunos badges too..

Thank you! Did you check out the Drift Mayhem teaser? At the 0:15 mark is the sticker I put together for Drift Mayhem. Strikingly similar to your avatar.
