From Stewart Thompson (facebook, miata club page)

Most of you are aware of the crankshaft problems of the 1990 Miata. Well, all Miata NA and NB crankshafts, 91-05, are also susceptible to keyway wear and snout damage. I have seen it many many times.

I have made this crankshaft bushing on my lathe in response, and I call it the Crank Saver. It repairs worn crankshafts and saves them from being replaced. I have saved many engines from crank replacement with just this simple part.

It extends the length of the crankshaft dowel/snout through the Pulley Boss of any NA, NB 91-05. It will save any crankshaft with a worn keyway. One very essential benefit is that the Crank Saver also re-centers the new Pulley Boss, impossible without it. Crank Saver reestablishes the keyway and extends it, it extends the length of the crankshaft 14mm to the Boss Pulley/Crank Bolt surface and eliminates the air gap.

A great way to save a damaged Miata crankshaft and great life insurance for your healthy crankshaft.

Wiith the additional length of that bushing, do you need a longer crank bolt? Pretty cool idea.
