Agreed to buy another MX5 today. I still have the regular 3 but I sold the MK1 RS Limited minus the red leather kelvar recaros a few weeks ago. I lost count a long time ago but think this will be well into the late 50's on number of MK1 MX5s I have owned since around 1998/1999.
Before I had bought the RS Limited I had been looking for a MK1 Eunos Roadster R Limited. This has always been one of my favourite roadsters as I like the exterior paint colour, mica satellite blue and the red leather interior. This was a JDM roadster only, 894 made in Satellite blue, 106 in chaste white but like the RS Limited benefiting from the 1.8 engine, light weight flywheel, short ratio torsen LSD (so drives more like a 1.6), uprated bracing, etc, light weight BBS wheels, blue soft top, etc.
Having sold the RS Limited a bit like London buses a few R Limited I saw came up for sale. I missed one as it was too far North in England but today agreed to buy the 1 below in East London so not too far from me. It was imported by a reputable mx5 specialist back in 2005 from London and looks like it has been under sealed when it was imported so a solid body shell which is good. It also benefits from a newish mohair blue hood, a mazdaspeed style/roll bar, still has the other R Limited features, etc. Downside is the paint is a bit shabby on a couple of panels and the BBS wheels are only the 14' version. However there is a bundle of paperwork, some useful spares, etc. Here are some photos:
Plans for it will be to keep it stock. Rightly or wrongly I think prices on MK1s have bottomed out here in the UK so don't think now is a bad time to get one as decent limited edition roadster.
