So as I was just about ready to pull the trigger on this last night I came to realize that I have not address the question of which of the two coolant reroute design is the easiest to change thermostat. M-tuned or Begi? That the use of a separate thermostat body/holder or the Kia thermostat housing? Thanks guys.

For best performance You want the t-stat in the cylinder head. The problem is to remove the t-stat from the back of the head is a freaking issue plus with the Begi spacer you will have very little space to swap parts there. The m-tune reroute has a universal remote t-stat so that you don't have to go through this headache. You can also buy the remote t-stat housing from jeg's and build your own coolant reroute.

Thanks for the insight. I was really wondering about this. My engine is out so installation is not the issue but rather down the road when I have to replace the t-stat/thermostat.

Now as with regards to the t-stat being out of the cylinder head, the stock front neck also places the the it out of the head doesn't it so my question is how far should the t-stat be from the head to make it perform well?

Coolant reroute on a California car?

No need to reinvent the wheel here or boggle your mind with all the details. Unless you're seriously budget constrained just get the M-tuned reroute and be done with it. If it works good enough for Flyin' Miata and 949Racing and Trackspeed Engineering then it's good enough for you. I've never been fond of BEGI but I know they have their supporters. And I also know there are people who are determined to piece together their own kit to save a few bucks. But seriously, just get the M-tuned reroute and then you won't have to think about it anymore. Alternatively, feel free to spend hours more reading, researching, forming your own opinion, doubting, forming new opinion and maybe end up back at square one. Below is some good reading to get you started if you want to go down that route instead.

Why are you putting the link to the Hyper Coolant reroute from miataturbo.net? Those people there talk a lot of nonsense and lies about my coolant reroute set up simply because my design is very simple as I don't use a thermostat spacer, oil warmer and lines, and the heater.

Also, I don't want to start a debate here nor I care about coolant reroute discussions anymore so I will appreciate if you remove the link from miataturbo.net. Thanks a lot.

EDIT: OP you seen to know little about miata coolant reroutes. My best answer to you is to visit a local junkyard and look at FWD Mazda protege, Kia Sephia. If you want to do a coolant reroute look at the coolant path in those engines and try to do the same in your miata. Once you'll learn to understand how it works in a FWD car, you'll realize it very simple to design a coolant reroute for your miata.

There is no need to design one when M-tuned has already done it for us.

Because despite all the arguments that thread contains useful technical information for anyone contemplating doing something other than the tried and true M-tuned reroute. But to make you happy I've edited my post. I'm awesome like that

    Thanks a lot freedomgli

I put another coolant reroute link that talks about the mixing manifold. I put it here for reference since it was not included in your previous post.

Thank you so much guys for the info and patience. I am just making sure that I am not repeating somebody else mistake. It looks like M-tuned is indeed the better of the two.
