    Making a hard top headliner

Howdy! I would like some tips on how to proceed with these the right way, as I'm coming up a bit short on my internet searches. Has anyone done this to their hard tops before? Does anyone have one of the nakamae headliners? What are the layers of it made of? How does it attach to the hardtop itself?

I have been putting this off for a bit now. I will probably get started in a couple of weeks. My plan was just to add some sound deadener and either carpet or suede. I'll definitely post my steps here.

3M hi-strength 90 spray adhesive is what I used to re-attach my old factory headliner on one of my old miatas, just make sure you know where you want it, since that stuff grabs fast and wont let go! As for the size, there is a groove that runs around the inside and mine was cut to match that little groove. So you can get your measurements from that if you have a OEM hardtop.

Make a pattern is something cheap and non stretchy before cutting your nice material. I usually use broadcloth, or something heavy like that.

I have some tan leather to match my interior and I was looking around Home Depot for something to wrap it around, but I didn't know if there was a recommended material to use. I'll definitely be putting sound deadener up there though.

So, I decided to just jump right in and do it. The weather was nice, and I had some free time.
I went to Lowe's and picked up some spray adhesive, contact cement, and this:
    Attachment 13757
(My apologies in advance for the low quality pictures, all I have is my phone)
When I got home, I went ahead laid some of the underlayment across the hardtop and used a knife to cut along the groove that outlines the headliner space.
    Attachment 13759
Once that was cut out, I put some sound deadener down that I had left over from doing my interior, before I went any further.
    Attachment 13758
I took the original cut out of the underlayment and traced it on to another layer. I did this 4 times and cut each one out.
    Attachment 13760
After cutting them out, I used spray adhesive to glue the 4 of them together and make somewhat of a pad to wrap my leather around.
    Attachment 13761
Then, it was just a matter of wrapping the leather, lining up the headliner and gluing it down!

All and all, I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Especially because I struggle to wrap Christmas presents...
