Sorry for the misfortune, but it sounds like this car will be back up and running soon! Hope all goes well!

Thanks for the note, yes it's been a long wait and very frustrating. Lot of friends and fellow miata club members wondered why I did not do a engine swap. I wished I could afford to do a KMiata or V8 swap but no funds for that kind of project. Just trying to put it back to as close to what it was. Looking at getting some head work done locally to get more air, similar to what Steve had done by Track Dog as we put Rooster back together. Thx Cuz- The Other OtherSawyer

    Rooster now in Mid-Tenn

I'm flying out to Palooza from SoCal - would be so incredible to see Rooster in person! Hmm, so I guess selfishly I'm rooting for you.. Most importantly I hope you get things sorted for you. Haven't run into engine issues yet but being out of commission for a couple months was painful.

Yes this has been a major frustration, engine starting acting up on way to MATG last July, been in & out of 3 shops and now at a friend's garage/shop have not really had the car ever since, it's been almost 8 months now. Lucky that I have another even though it's an automatic ( wife's Miata).

Ok folks we are trying to get Rooster's motor swapped and my friend Jeff is doing the swap and has a question. On the blown head what is the module at back of cam on driver's side of coil pack. There is not any wiring harness at firewall that goes to this module. Rooster had a 99 head re-worked and added to a 96 block and we are swapping in a complete 99 motor and this module is not on the new motor. Pix of it

CAS= Cam Angle Sensor, BP4W's don't have it…..just use the one that was on the car, and make sure to replace the o-ring.

OK thanks, we are going to transfer as many parts as possible from Rooster's old motor since this was a sort of hybrid 99/96 build and we are trying to use the 96 wiring harness, computer, etc., and thanks for the heads up on the O ring.

Another question; the car had a heavy duty clutch and it went bad and we are replacing it with a stock clutch and Rooster has a light flywheel will there be any problems?

Forgot to add these when I got them back last year, the Red is supposed to be as close to 93 LE Red as they can get, it is a dark red but not a perfect match. Also a while back I added a EUNOS oil cap from Adam at RevLimiter, but no pix.

For the CAS o-ring, I suggest getting and using a viton O-ring instead of the normal option. Should be the last CAS o-ring you ever have to worry about.

I'll pass this along to Jeff, maybe we can find Viton O-rings locally, we are trying to get the Rooster back on the road by this weekend so I can have a week or so to drive it before making the trip to Miatapalooza. - Thx

You won't have any issues by the lighter flywheel; just make sure its' surface is nice (no hotspots) and flat. Worth replacing the pilot bearing as well, but I assume this will be done with the clutch anyway. While you are in there, check the rear main seal (crank) for leaks too.
