Thanks for the info, Jeff was going to do that and we were changing the pilot bearing as well, one came with the new clutch.

I assume it had a SPEC clutch in it……I have replaced many of those crappy things, and it's rarely pretty.

I use OEM Value Pack clutches on many N/A Miata's….many for AutoX, that flog them pretty good.

I asked Steve about the clutch and the kind of flywheel and he said they were in the car when he got it and didn't know.

Wanted to keep the reverse coolant re-route and both motors had to be taken apart, had to pull both front covers, both timing belts and even all four cam pulleys.
    Old motor not much left
    [IMG][/IMG]

But it is done and ready to go back in the car.

    [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Next problem, the shop that took the motor out didn't label anything and threw it all in a box so Jeff had to sort thru it and come up with a system.

    Jeff's system: Bolts sorted.[IMG][/IMG]
Now to the next-next problem, I bought a set of red vac hoses to put on the motor when re-installed and not one of them match and most hoses have been modified in some way. Also when I asked if the car would be ready by the weekend he says " I hope so but we need some luck and everything falls in place! I wished they would have labeled all the hoses with tape that would save several hrs of guessing."
Still hoping to have Rooster running by next week so we can make Miatapalooza!!!

Stuff still in a box: [IMG][/IMG]

Another update on the Rooster: motor is in and so is radiator, one of the motor mounts was gone, I had told him I thought something was wrong with mounts due to the motor hitting the hood in a couple of spots. Told him to go ahead and get the motor mounts when he bought the motor, good thing we thought of that. But he is missing some small items: lower radiator hose and clamp, 2 vac hoses on intake, power steering bolt, and clamp for cold air intake. Says he'll go tomorrow and get parts after work, hopes to finish up Saturday and fire it up. Should be able to pick up car Sunday and drive a couple of days to see if there are any bugs. The Vac hose set I bought is wrong, none of them match, either they sent the wrong set or I goofed up.

Update- Rooster lives! The motor started and runs, Jeff let it run for a while to see how it went and no problems, no gas leaks, no water leaks, and no oil leaks. Battery was dead and had to be jumped off, brand new battery when all this first happened and has not been hooked up for 6 months and dropped down to 2 volts, it should have held a charge just like a battery sets on a shelf in a store? Anyway Jeff had just charged up his boat battery so he jumpered it to the car's cables and the motor fired right up on the 1st try, idled down to normal revs and runs like nothing happened. Finished getting everything in motor bay squared away. Had two wires left coming thru the firewall on passenger side and still do not know what they are for. Tomorrow still have to put drive shaft back in, bolt the frame rail/ butterfly bracing back under the car, and top off the transmission fluid. Also for some reason the other shop took out the seats and seat belts so they need to be bolted back in. Then we take it for a test run and see if any bugs show up.

Another puzzle Jeff found, why would a shop cut thru the shift boot?

Got the top back on and was going to wash him up but according to the weather folks we will be driving in the rain for a good part of the day tomorrow. Hope there's someplace close to the Stadium Hotel that has a car wash? Getting ready for Tampa trip, 'Palooza here we come!

    Hey Rooster,
    Love your car.
Of course white NA's are the best!

I hope to see you a Palooza.

I think you are living my dream.
Miata + Tennessee roads + Tennessee rivers and lakes.

I sure would like a place on Watts Bar lake.
