Yes, that's the Shell station at the Gilmore, one of my favorite places on earth! Have you been there lately?
They have added on a lot of new buildings, Model A ford, Lincoln and Cadillac.

I used to live in Grand Haven and Grand Rapids. I think I was last there in '02 for the Mad dogs and Englishmen meet. I met Chris Lee there the first time at that spot. I remember when this shot was taken:

We met again later when we both moved to SOCAL. The museum did a burnout battle with two of their Ferraris that day. I will never forget that.

It's a great car collection they have there, was one of the Ferrari's a 275 GTB fly yellow? Wish I had seen that!

    My Miata is Betsy.

The name came to me one afternoon while describing some family history. By Marriage, I'm related to Betsy Ross. My Miata is old(ish), white, and I just felt the car wasn't a dude. So Betsy just seemed to fit! I came about the car by growing up around it, and eventually got the chance to buy it from the original owner, my Father, Early 2014.

I have been looking to own a Miata for quite a few years. When this one came up for sale by my co-worker I had to give it a shot. While my wife and I took it out for a test drive my mind wondered to the Nicholas Cage movie "Gone in 60sec". His white unicorn The "67" Shelby GT 500 was called Eleanor. I brought this up to my wife and she recommended just calling her "Eli". So "Eli" it is.

I just picked up another NA, a '92 Mariner with 115,xxx and in need of a compound and polish. Yesterday, while not even really thinking of names it just came to me. A few people who have ridden with me have joked saying that I could be a getaway driver.
Soooo, Nigemasu (逃げます ), or "The Getaway" will be the car's dubbing. Once I settle some recent unplanned expenditures the build will begin and the car will be able to grow up to it's new name.
P.S. The B6 engine is awesome, torqueless or not. With a lightweight flywheel this thing is much more fun and characterful than my last NA8.

What is the name of your Miata?

'92 Mariner, originally called it Blue Monday. Yeah, I grew up in the 80s.

It is most often just called "Blue" or "Blu".

I'm an animator by trade, so as such, I gravitate toward inspiration from animation. Porco Rosso's a pig who pilots a red airplane. To me, he represents freedom, and contradictory impossibility (flying pig).
Porco happens to by favorite Ghibli movie also.

It's such a shame the film is so terribly underrated. It makes me glad to see there's somebody else out there that appreciates it at least half as much as I do.
