I can't add anything to what everyone else has already said here. Things will get better, and we all expect to see you back in a Miata. In the meantime, don't be a stranger.

12-26-16: Warbird no longer has anything resembling a 'cockpit' but back to a regular and boring passenger compartment...granted attractive in its own right.

Still need to set the gauge needles which is why the gauge cover and hood are not installed. Also still have to secure a set of tan door panels and door sills but besides that it is back to stock on the interior. Next up is the suspension and exhaust.

@revlimiter: It is sad indeed, especially after seeing how FANTASTIC Todd aka MC70's na6 dash swap went with your gauge pods and custom gauge faces w/ your anti-reflective glass...so AMAZING!

The push button start was just too much wiring to undo so it id staying for sure plus it is so cool!

01-09-17: Received some parts the other day but it was 'too cold' this past weekend to work in the garage but today was beautiful so got some work done.

I decided to remove the Cobalt low profile headlights to sell since I had found out that the headlight frames bolted to the chassis, I was under the impression they were welded. I ordered a set of used headlight frames from Tom with The Parts Group and of course the set I received was RED of all colors. So last week after receiving them I cleaned them up, sprayed 3 coats of black paint and 3 coats of satin clear coat.

Since the oem headlight actuator rods had to be modified for the Cobalt low pros, I ordered a new set from Priority Mazda along with a set of oem motor mounts, here are all the above mentioned parts.

I then remembered that only the lower part of the headlight frame was used/modified for the Cobalt low pros, so I went ahead and used the upper part that the actual headlight mounts to since it was the correct color.

Once installed I forgot how ridiculously high the oem headlights were, 9'' to the inside/tallest corner to be exact. I preferred the Cobalt low pros modest 4.5" height for sure for both aesthetics and functionality/visibility.

At this point it seems unfair/inaccurate to refer to the mostly stock 1997 M Edition Miata that remains as Warbird. The notion of naming a car seems ridiculous to some or just an attempt to gain some sort of 'internet fame', it was named to help make it more personal. What is the first thing you do when you meet someone? You introduce yourselves and then use the individuals name from then on because the use of their name personalizes them. It was the same reason/idea here.

The ARTech exhaust still remains so that I can make video clips and a potential buyer wants the exhaust so it will stay on for now. I went for a drive and after removing the 'custom short ram air intake' I realized the exhaust is even quieter than I thought all along as the intake roared pretty good.

Even with the current resonated test pipe installed, the exhaust is quieter than any other aftermarket exhaust I have heard on a miata. Abe delivered EXACTLY what I asked for, which is pretty fantastic considering he has never made another exhaust like this one so he didn't know what to expect in terms of loudness. I think the standard size Magnaflow muffler he uses would have been sufficient since I would have like some pops on decal, but it still has some nice burble.

Chad. Just admit you wanted to go full circle and needed an excuse! ( bow to you my brother for finding it )

You built a bad-ass. Then you make a resto. If I ever have to have a reason for the Pug to understand my logic, you mind if I hit you up?

Peace, best wishes and luck my fellow nut-case!

01-14-16: I went up to the DFW(Dallas/Ft. Worth) area today to look at a prospect for the next project but don't think it will work out. It wasn't a total waste of 4hrs and 260 miles round trip though as Rick aka rdgonzo lived in the area and had a great set of NA tan door panels(for power windows) for a great price, so I picked these up from him...

They are in really great shape with every hole intact and almost every plastic clip there! Thanks again Rick for reaching out with them! Also thanks to e1_griego (sorry I never got your name) for offering to ship a pair to me if I couldn't find any local. I really appreciate it!

I had a set of black manual window door panels that I got from Todd aka MC70 but they just did not look right in the tan interior...well see for yourself.....

....nope that doesn't work and even though I won't have to look at them much longer and I couldn't sell it like that so here are the tan door panels installed...

....SO MUCH BETTER! I think the door pulls look better than the arm rest ones but the door pulls seem to bother me when driving...not sure why....so I guess what I am saying is the door pulls look better but the arm rest function better.

Never seen anyone putting that much effort in returning a car to stock in order to sell it...and that says a lot!

01-21-16: So a few weeks ago a fellow Miata enthusiast that had bought some parts from me, contacted me and said his Miata was totaled the day before new years and was interested in buying my '97M, formally known as Warbird.

We talked and reached some agreements and he said he would be in contact with me once the insurance settlement was reached, although he had some other prospects. Well this week he informed that he was either flying to Texas or New York to buy a Miata and would let me know by Friday, which it would be.

Friday came and he said he would be flying to Texas to buy my '97M and it had already been established he wanted the custom ARTech exhaust and FEAL 441 Road Race coilovers. He also deiced he wanted the DDM panel w/ gauges & radio, Warbird Edition door sills and Racing Beat sway bar w/ blocks. He asked me if I would be willing to install some of those parts and we reached an agreement and I got the DDM panel and door sills installed.

So from the modestly decent radio....

....to something much more attractive with much more function...

....and the oem '97 M Edition door sills had to go....

    ....for something with more class....

    ....that is much better!

Next up was the exhaust. Unfortunately last Sunday when swapping out the resonated test pipe for the high flow catalytic converter I snapped the pin for the bolt on one of the vband clamps and that caused a exhaust leak. I contacted Abe w/ ARTech and he put a new vband and a few gaskets in the mail for me.

The vband clamp and gaskets showed up today and I spent over two hours trying to get the exhaust leak sorted. Apparently the gasket where the vband bolt pin broke caused it to bind and deform the gasket, causing a exhaust leak.

Sadly the new gaskets leaked as well and what I figured out is both the gaskets had a very small gap when installed. I called Abe but didn't get him and left a voicemail. Decided to go to the auto parts store as I needed a few things and thought I might try a 2.5'' collector gasket as I saw others had done so with vbands and resolved the leak they had.

Upon arriving back home I saw Abe had called back and I informed him what was going on and he suggested using some RTV to fill in the small gap and if that didn't resolve the issue then he would get some brass(iirc) gaskets and send them to the new owner. Really great that ABe got back to me so quickly and was trying to help me get the issue resolved...on the weekend no less.

I REALLY hope the issue is resolved because I hate to deliver the car with an exhaust leak, even if it is only audible at certain rpms and not constant. I informed the soon to be new owner and he was understanding given the circumstances.

Next up was the suspension and reinstalling the FEAL coilovers. Since I have done this now.....what 3-4 times...it went smoothly but my precious 2 yr old grand daughter was 'helping me' so it took a little longer since I had to keep an eye on my little helper. Should have got a pic of here in her dress helping me.

I can't tell you how much I hated driving on the stock suspension, never mind the 4x4 status(like 14.5''+) so getting to go from this....

    ...to this(around 12.25''/12.5'')....

...was welcomed and will be much better of a drive tomorrow when I drive 2.5hrs to pick up the new owner at the DFW International air port and hopefully he will enjoy the 1300+ mile drive back home that much more. Then I will go look at the next possible project....we will see. I better get to bed as I have to get up in about 6 hours.

So glad that Warbird ended up in good hands; would be a pity after all that care to end up with someone who did not appreciate your hard work Chad!

I don't think it is my place but the new owner is a active forum member on another forum. I will see if he will start a build thread here as well.

Yes the new owner put in a lot of effort over the past few weeks to get to this point and then flying here and now driving back some 1300 miles. We talked about some of his plans and I really like some of his ideas and very excited to see there the '97M formally known as Warbird' goes from here. He actually wants to 'hunt down' some of the parts and see if he can't get them.

01-22-17: I woke up at about 7am and headed out to meet the soon to be new owner that was flying in to the DFW International airport. Made good time and arrived just minutes after he landed and before he got off the plan. That airport is HUGE...granted I have only been too a few but I stand by my observation.

Thankfully I found the new owner w/o much trouble and we stopped in a parking garage so he could check out his soon to be new project. Thankfully he seemed to be very happy with everything DESPITE the unfortunate news that I didn't get the exhaust leak resolved AND had left the title at home. Thankfully he was understanding and with a few pics from my wife of the title to show it was clear and such, we were on our way with the soon to be new owner behind the wheel.

He was really impressed with the exhaust despite the exhaust leak, thank GOODNESS! He also couldn't believe how much better the FEAL's Road Race 12k/8k rode over his AFCO's even though the FEAL's are set at the stiffer end of their settings.

We went to a IN and Out Burger to wait for my ride and chatted about his plans and was really glad it worked out because he seems like the right owner. I'm very excited to see what direction he takes the '97M. I did snap some last pics before going our separate ways as I really didn't take many pics of the 97M in all her Warbird goodness, nothing special just some parking lot shots.

I especially like the last pic because it lends itself to the new owners career and direction with the '97M...hopefully he see it to. I will provide a link to the new owners build thread once he starts one.

I have picked up a new project and will start a non-Miata build thread shortly, after I get some pics. I will say that it is one of the longest consecutive running model lines in history and has a rich heritage of its own that typically arouses strong feelings in people, for better or worse.
