    First packages have shown up.

    Beautiful 949 QMAX reroute

New belts, master and slave, and heater hoses from RockAuto

Still lots of stuff to order, some from FlyinMiata, some from my local dealer, and some other stuff going on.

Dropped off a new oil pan to weld a bung, as well as my drain and feed lines for some modification to make things flow better.

Got the urge to work on some disassembly at 3am.

Pulled both manifolds, alternator, starter, and mounts.

    Intake

    Turbo

And here's a good idea of the amount of gunk I get to clean.

Lobo came off jackstands and saw sunlight for the first time in at least 3 months.

It was time to wash the bay.

Ahh ok. I always forget which one.

So I guess I had a leak from my front crank as well as my exhaust cam seal. Replaced all 3 with OEM seals, and also installed the 949 Qmax. A few steps closer to putting it back in.

    The beautiful 949 piece.

Amazing how it cleans up with some engine grease.

So things have progressed but not finished yet unfortunately. Keep running into little problems.

    Intake manifold assembled after powder.

Oil pan also coated with a material that's good for heat dissipation.

    Engine mostly back together.

And one of the problems I've ran into.Tensioner lock bolt snapped off in the alternator.

Engine looks the part! What's that oil pan coating? Asking out of pure curiosity, as powder coating powders are typically polymer-based which is bad for heat dissipation

    Long overdue update.

I took the alternator to a local Miata shop, and they couldn't get it out so they just replaced the front housing.

We got the engine all buttoned up and mounted the transmission. I had to get a tap set because the bottom holes on the new oil pan were all gummed up.

We were able to drop it in and get most of it bolted up and double checked our work. I also replaced the clutch master and slave since they both showed many signs of wear.

This is where we left off. I could do the rest alone.

The next day I added the radiator and fans, filled all the fluids, and prepared to start it.

I had it hooked to jumper cables and got ready to turn the key, and hooked up my laptop.

And then I heard a ridiculous buzzing noise and also saw fuel spraying.

    More to come.

(Insert Eric Cartman with a stick in his hand) Bad injector, bad! Fuel is supposed to go in the motor, not on it!

    Hopefully an easy fix...

Good thing you caught the fuel leak before you started it.
Last month I bought a fire extinguisher and I have a seat bracket on the way.

Do you have a fire extinguisher for your start-up?

I do not have an extinguisher, but need to get one.

So to pick up where we left off.

I got in touch with Nigel from FlowForce and he sent me new o rings. I put the injectors in without lube so I will be redoing them. But I wanted to figure out the buzzing.

I had heard that low batteries act weird, so I bought a new battery from Mazda, and cleaned all of my engine grounds and modified the trunk negative cable since it was fraying.

I unplugged the Circuit Opening Relay and the injector harness and hooked my laptop up and turned the key.

No more buzzing and TunerStudio read the MS fine, and I was able to recalibrate my TPS.

But now I had an issue with my Coolant sensor. It was bouncing from 0 to 180.

    https://youtu.be/7v7mRBOnqkY

So I left for the day. I came back and verified that all of my grounds were fine and thought maybe the sensor was bad.

Due to the clearance of the reroute block, and the sensor being blocked by my hose clamp, I needed to remove the clamp. Well it's tight back there. I couldn't get a socket back there and I only had a 6mm mini wrench. I loosened it as much as I could blindly for what felt like forever and gave up in search of a 6mm gear wrench.

After searching I found Craftsman had a 6 piece set for $29 locally. I went and saw it but as I was walking out saw a 20pc GearWrench set for $49, and I even found a $10 off $50 coupon. 20 gear wrenches for $43.

So I went back home and lo and behold the 6 didn't fit in the space due to hitting the sensor.

During this time I had an epiphany. I had played with the wires of the sensor watching my laptop for any change and was baffled because nothing happened. And then it hit me. The temp sensor is a part of the injector harness. I plugged it in and it went to 72 degrees and held steady.

Now I had to deal with tightening the clamp.

So I tried to get a socket on the sensor just to turn it slightly. Well I did, but felt the sensor head start wiggling. But it moved. I got the gear wrench on it and then the clamp broke somehow.

I found the clamps Flyin Miata sent with their NB lower hose and put one on repositioned at a much better angle. I can now loosen it with a socket from the top if I move the coil pack.

So finally I went to put the clip back on the sensor and I pulled it to make sure the sensor was clamped. And the internal part of the sensor came with it.

Luckily I had an Oreilly nearby with a new one, so I went and grabbed it and installed it and then tightened everything back up.

All I had to do was button things up and start it. But then I hit another speed bump.
