How I learned to stop worrying and love the MX-5

When I first got this car it reminded me of my High School days and my Triumph Spitfire(only more reliable). I thought it would be fun for couple of years at the most and than I would sell it. But that all changed when I did a basic service to the car. I went to change out the air cleaner but instead I pulled the leads out of MAF. I did a internet search to find out how to put the pins back into the MAF and came across Revlimiter.com. Sharka blew me away. I knew I was screwed. My car needed to look more like that, but that wasn't in the budget. I talked the wife into 100 american pesos a month for the car. How could I do a build thread? Soooooo boring, one update every three months or so. That's what I thought. Well I've had the car four years now and it has come a long way. I should have made a build thread all along just to keep a record of the progress.
I did post updates to my car from time to time on various threads, I'll try to go back and find some of them.

The letters of my AZ plate for the car are BAT so I named it Red Bat. But that never quite felt right. The car just wasn't happy with that.
So the name was changed to Mandrake.

Dr.Strangelove, one of my all time fav movies.
If you haven't seen it you should shoot yourself
but before you do that rent the movie.

Had Mandrake about a month and was teaching the wife to drive a stick (insert joke here).
Me is not a good teacher. She burned the clutch up. So Mandrake got a new one form Mazda along with master and slave and 949 Racing clutch line.

That was over three years ago and I still love these gauges as much as the day I got them.
    Thank you Adam!!!

I forget who it was but I got this idea from someone here.

It looked great but I used epoxy to bond the plate to the tombstone. I drilled out counter sunk washers with no bench vice or drill press. Just a hand held drill. Pain in the arss.
After a wile I need a new tombstone and it was much easier to just get Adam's switches.

Took a few months saving and than a couple months to get this but was it ever worth it.
Thanks goes out to Tetsuya Garage.

The glare from the glass was just horrible. You couldn't see the gauges half the time
but didn't care, sooo pretty. (oops I mean cool)

Revlimiter to the rescue. New Rev anti glare glass installed and all is bliss.
(This photo is showing the old glass, not the Rev glass. Level of your bliss may very)

Picked up an RX-7 wheel on ebay.

Moto Lita from YAJ for $100. When I got it in the mail the leather was gone and it smelled like a skunk had sprayed it.(Do they have skunks in Japan)

One of the nice things about taking your time is you come across great deals.
Got this from YAJ for cheep the description said "junk" I think that means used in Japan.
    It looks brand new.
