RX-8 LSX swap - What engine and transmissions work?

    Hi,
I'm starting to save up for the swap. What RX-8's are suitable for the swap? All years but MTX only? And what years/model engines and transmissions work with your mounting kit?

In other words, JUST AS AN EXAMPLE...

    Engines:
    '06-'12 Camaro LSabc
    '08-'11 Cadillac CTwhatever

    Transmission:
    '06-'12 Camaro LS XYZ-6060

BTW, I apologize if this has been posted in another thread but I didn't see it on your site so I was wondering.

    Thanks,
    Ben

And by paging you'd better text him.

I believe any on the rwd car based LS motors would probably work, the differences are in the accessory arrangement and offer from the front of the motor. I don't think the offset would be much of an issue in the RX8 but I'm sure Shandelle can correct me.
As far as trans, t56 from 98-03 Camaro, 04-06 GTO, and possibly some others. The Cadillac uses a difference tail housing, shifter, and output shaft if I remember correctly, making it a PIA to convert.

    Here's a current build

The kit is designed to work with all model years of the RX8 and any 3rd or 4th gen LS engine. If you source the donor from a truck or SUV, the intake manifold will need to be swapped to the shorter car version. The preferred accessories are the CTSV due to the compact configuration. Other accessory styles may work but we have not tested them. The complete CTSV accessory kits can be purchased starting around $500. F-body, early LS2, or one of our oil pans will be required.

The T56 from the Camaro/Firebird 98-02 and the GTO 04-06 are compatible and the kit uses the GTO shifter offset. Some of the newer T6060 magnums may fit as well. You do NOT want the CTSV version of the T56.

Thanks Shandelle! So ideally, do we want a 29.5" shifter or 33"? Or does the kit include a different shifter bracket/linkage?

    Thanks,
    Ben

33" from what I just read. So either a GTO trans or a f-body trans and add the GTO shifter as that is what gives you the difference. There should be an abundance of GTO shifter from the miata swaps where everyone removed them

Shandelle, I'm curious... Will there be a different mounting kit for the LFX? Or is it just a matter of using different/adjustable motor mounts?

I see on the NA/B, that there two different cradles, one for the LSX and on for the LFX.

    Thanks,
    Ben

The LS and LFX kits are completely different. The development on the LFX-8 has been minimal over the last year. The best swap for the RX8 at this time is the LS.

I forgot to ask, does it matter if the RX-8 has an ATX? Or should we stick with MTX to avoid issues down the road?
