Sometimes it is the little jobs that are quite satisfying. A job on the list for the black pitcrew roadster had been to find a wooden Carmate cigarette car lighter. Not normally a fan of wooden interior car parts but with the retro nature of the Pitcrew and the Nardi wooden 60th Anniversary wheel a nice complement. Trying to find the Carmate cigarette lighter proved evasive most of the last year until a fellow enthusiast in New Zealand (Joel on here) put one up for sale on the classifieds. A deal was concluded and the part promptly sent. Like a say a small part but satisfying to finally track down.

Thanks Randy. I hope you are keeping well? You are right on the small details. I had been after a carmate wooden cigarette lighter for ages so when I saw Joel belatedly selling one on here was lucky when Joel hadn't sold and to conclude a purchase.

There is some jobs I hope to complete soon for the red roadster. This includes a replacement front lip spoiler as have a original rubber Mazda front lip spoiler waiting to go on. Whilst the one fitted looks alright its from a Renault Laguna so not JDM enough for me and I want something better quality fitted. Likewise having snapped the bolt holding the drivers mirror to the red car was the excuse I needed so have some replacement mirrors on route.

That lighter looks really good with the Nardi wheel. Definitely two of my favourite interior parts in my old roadster.

Thanks Victor and hope your keeping well and enjoying the latest car? I wish I had bought the wooden Carmate cigarette lighter you had but a year or so down the line it's done.

Keep up the good work. I love it when this thread gets updated. You have so much energy to keep your fleet of mx5s going and progressing with all the cool mods. Amazing.

Actually lost interest in the hachi so will just drive it over winter and when spring arrives I'll trade it in for a new car. Test drove a Mini Cooper S a couple of weeks ago and totally falled in love with that little thing so will most likely place an order on a 2016 John Cooper works.

Better late than never! When looking at your's again it looks slightly paler and a bit different then mine old one. Is this a NOS?

Thanks. I am hoping to collect some new parts today that have arrived from Japan. Tomorrow hope to fit them as well as the Mazda front lip spoiler on the red mk1.

Nice one I looked at a first generation BMW Mini Cooper JCW edition earlier this year but bought another mx5 instead! I used to have a classic Mini and can see the appeal. However I think you should get another mx5 as always enjoyed your updates. What is NOS? It was mentioned on the advert it was but no idea what it meant?!

My stepdad had a 97 or 98 year model of the original Mini Cooper with a pretty much straight center mounted exhaust pipe and it was loud as hell! Always had a thing for mini's since then. Also test drove a Renault Megane RS but that car just didn't do it for me. The Mini might be slower but it has so much more character and all the pops and bangning from the exhaust while in sport mode was enough to convince me. Really impressed by the build quality too compared to the Megane and my toybaru.

If i get the opportunity to have 2 cars again i will most likely get another mx5 but that might take i while i'm afraid.

It stands for New Old Stock ;)

Thanks Victor. Everyday is a school day. I never new what NOS was!

If you go for the Mini I am sure it will be fun. Members of my family have the latest generation BMW Mini cooper diesel while my sister has the first Mini Cooper with the panoramic roof. I think they have that old school charm as you say.

Few updates on the red car this week. One was the result of the driver mirror falling off a couple of weeks ago while parked in the garage. I had been thinking of some after market bullet mirrors for a while and this mirror breaking sped the process up. I went with the Zoom Engineering carbon bullet mirrors. I have these on the Corns Roadster and like the styling, quality and importantly they have good adjustment so was an obvious choice.

Next up was a Mazda front splitter which has more depth then the after market splitter fitted previously. I think this helps with the front and this look is one of my favourites.

The Hayashi's + the lip makes such a difference! Love the zoom mirrors. Really interested on the visibility without the extended arm.. can you see anything out the passenger side?

Yeah when I bought this car as a non runner back in June as it had been parked up for 2 years I could appreciate even then the previous owner in Japan before it came to the UK in 2009 had a good idea with the choice of wheel and size plus the ride height. With its faded paint, dulled hayahsi wheels it still had a level of charm to it.

I added the Mazda front lip as whilst I didn't mind the front splitter on it there wasn't enough to depth to it and I think the change is a definite improvement. This had been added by the previous owner here in the UK.

The Zoom Engineering mirrors visibility is not bad. I run the runabout m2 mirrors on my silver roadster and black roadster and would say the Zoom Engineering are better as have more adjustability and the mirror is slightly bigger. These type of mirrors are not as good as stock for visibility but I can use no mirrors.

The red car now I think short of a few more tidy up jobs the look is how I want it. The budget for doing it has gone well overboard but the plan had been to restore back to a subtly stock modified JDM roadster. With my others I have the track roadster, retro roadster, stock model roadster and wide roadster plus the latest black roadster which I've yet to decide what to do with. I like a variety of roadster designs from stock to highly modified so it's nice to have my take on them in the garage.

Are the zoom mirrors a convex lense or are they flat?
