    Importance Of Good Racing Seats

Video: The Importance Of Good Racing Seats

Whether you’re into time attack, autocross, drag racing, or drifting, the importance of a good racing seat is something you should never underestimate. They’re an important safety item, and if you’re ever in the market for them, you’ll want ones that pass the FIA and SFI crash test standards for optimum safety on the street and the track.

The seats shown in the video of this DC2 Honda Integra appear to be the stock Recaros, but many viewers commenting are claiming they are eBay replicas. One user actually believes Jonny Hoath’s seats are the original OEM ones, commenting, “Any impact like this to any car can potentially break the seats in some way. Also, you have to remember how old these cars are now, easily near 20 years old, and they’re still being used on the track.”

The passenger seat begins to fold under before the broken glass even hits the carpet
While we can definitely get behind that statement, we still had to question the structural integrity of the seats, regardless if they were OEM or not. We understand that inexpensive, replica seats can appeal to your wallet – but that savings does come at a cost of safety.

This video displays the importance of the need for safer racing seats while at the track. And as you can see, it pays to do a little research. Like we’ve stated above, check with the manufacturer and verify that your seats meet safety standards. If they have FIA and SFI certifications, they’re good to go.

Editor’s Note: There’s a reason why race cars have fixed-back seats!

Makes me wonder how well the Lotus seats would fare.

hard to say since my guess is those are knockoff (chinese) Recaro seats

A local guy here bought some Bride knockoffs and they did the same thing

Even if the seats are real, they may have come from a wrecked car. The wreck may have weakened the structure.

Eyeballs has had his OE Miata seat break at t11 @ AMP.
