KFJ just saw your latest comment, really no space to zoom out as things are tight back there. Managed to get this lucky shot with my phone, without really being able to see what I was shooting!

Managed to find some time today to "work" on the car. Wanted to do the frame rails like crazy, but I would like to tackle these on a weekend to do it properly, so I refinished some minor items. First off, my wooden Nardi gearknob, which was a mess. The clear coat had started getting yellow and chipping away, which might give out a bad attempt to repair it sometime at the past. Inspired by Adams' post on refinishing his wooden MOMO wheel (http://revlimiter.net/blog/2015/10/m...l-restoration/), I decided to give it a go. Managed to get the clear coat on the top of the knob away in big chunks using an x-acto knife and patience, so to keep the lettering as intact as possible. The rest was (rather aggressively) sanded back to wood. I was lucky enough to find the Epifanes varnish suggested by Adam at a small marine store on the next corner, so I gave it a lick of varnish.

    Sanded back:

At this stage the wood felt so nice and smooth in my hand that I was thinking of just going over it with teak oil and leave it alone. And already looked a million times better than before!

1st coat of Epifanes, diluted by 25%

Already looks good, need to repeat that 6-7 more times though!

I also find locally an RS Stage lip copy for relatively cheap, as it has been used for only 4 months and the owner decided to sell the car, so I bought it. It was quite scuffed when I got it...

I had already decided that I did not like the glossy PU finish on that, so I carefully sanded the whole thing, filled all deep scratches and painted it with bumper spray.

Not 100% sure on the finish, might prefer it in satin black, but will do for now.

Car is booked for a front/rear bumper respray next week, as well as polishing the headlights and protecting them with a UV film, so I will add the lip then. I also decided that I will go with painting the Watanabes instead of powdercoating, mainly because I have a really hard time getting a shade of powder reasonably close to the colour I decided without paying a fortune here, so I might drop the centers off to the painters' as well

As more coats of varnish are being applied to the gearknob (and the handbrake handle getting the same treatment), I bought and drilled a set of wipers, as I really liked Chad's idea! Thanks for the inspiration mate!

I messed up a bit with spacing, and they deffo need stripping and repainting, but overall I think I like them!

They look good Harry! The spacing will go unnoticed but it's not like they aren't easy or cheap to come by. I still need to refinish mine and get them powder coated clear.

I can't take credit though as Dave737 made the suggestion that i follow suite on Jimmy Vee's idea of the 'speed holes'.

Great work on refinishing the gear knob and brake handle!

As usual, tons of plans, but life gets on the way...anyway, here's an update! Removed and painted both bumpers. Paintshop did an amazing job as they got them back to bare plastic and did the whole prepping properly. Unfortunately the paint is not a dead match for the rest of the car, but then it is visible only to me; I have asked about 20 people and everyone seems to think it looks the same, so I can live with it. At the same time I had them filling the badge and front number plate holes, as I plan to order a nose badge from Adam. Not sure what to do on the rear though. I am debating between a Revlimiter one just under the 3rd stop light, or removing this altogether and have an RX2 Mazda badge and a Roadster badge on the rear bumper, one on each side of the number plate (pretty much like the Mazda and MX5 badges of the EU spec miatas, with a twist). However I like the bumper without them...decisions, decisions...

Test fitted the lip to see how I like it before painting the bumper, IMO it looks great but the bumper will have to come off to fix the panel gaps (the paint shop did not even tried on this one) so I will install it in due time.

At some point I tried to fit the wiper arms I drilled, but realized that they won't fit, as they were from a UK car and they are a flip image of mine. If any UK folk in here wants them, they can have them for free as long postage is covered. In the meanwhile I managed to score a pretty neat power upgrade which should arrive soonish. Trying to account for the extra grunt, I bought a 1.8 flywheel, to get it resurfaced and lightened/balanced in order to accommodate a bigger clutch. I also got delivery of 4 brand new Pagid rotors, and trying to decide on brake pads, so I can throw these on with new braided lines and ATE Typ200 fluid. Continued the CAD work for various parts to be CNC machined over the next few months (first one will be a set of delrin door bushes followed by Elise seat brackets). I also half-machined some HVAC controls but the shop lathe decided to die at some point, so they are not ready yet.

Finally I sold the red-centered RS8s to a usual suspect in here (so they are in the best hands possible) and bought a set of 7" wide ones. Laser-cut some 3mm spacers to properly clear the calipers in front and installed them today. Planned to paint the centers champagne gold, but my old tires have had it, so white it is for now!

Really start to like the rear view now with (relatively) fat Federal RSRs.

Well if we start the "cool parts" debate you definitely beat me...but we both have to admit that we have a thing leaving these parts on storage, rather than installing them

Thanks a lot mate, your help throughout this journey really means a lot. Also thanks to this community, the help, inspiration and friendliness in here is second to none! Hope to find some more time to proceed reducing the stockpile and install a bit or two. The quest continues!

I prefer the shaved look as well. However, EU-spec NB2s have pins holding the "MX5" badge in place, so your bumper might need a respray after removal; keep this in mind!

Thanks to Randy and his willingness to help me with the shipping process, I got delivery of a very special package, containing (amongst others), this:

More on the package once more urgent matters get sorted, and judging by my speed that would be anywhere from 6 to 12 months..

Found some time yesterday and today, so I did a few minor things. First one was to properly clean up all drain holes and wash thoroughly my hood to install the HT for the rainy season. Then I moved on to cleaning the inside of the HT and treating all seals with vinyl and rubber care. Also gave the car a good wash and cleaned the interior. Then moved on and re-tapped the threads for the OEM strut brace (as a mechanic fucked up when doing my timing belt) and reinstalled it. Something was rattling in my drivers' door, so along with adjusting the OEM door bushings I also removed the door cards and searched for the source, which proved to be the electric window mechanism cable. Hopefully it will not bother me again. I also re-installed my front license plate (driving without one here is a 300EUR fine), using a Jass offset plate but with a twist; put it on the right side since I want the left one free for some ducting towards the air filter. I started on Cappucinno washer bottle mounting, but stopped due to getting dark. Finally, my OCD kicked in so I dealt with my filthy coolant overflow bottle. It was full of crud, as seen here:

This is actually after trying to quickly trying to clean it once. Situation called for more drastic measures so I used a solution of hydrochloric acid and hot water and let it soak. After half an hour, added a handful of rice and shaked the hell out of it. Result:

Pictures don't do justice; I think it looks too yellow due to lighting/background. It's still not brand new, but it's night and day to what it was.

Oh, and my car now has a name; Ganbaru

So, after an unidentified flying object messed with the windshield, it got replaced yesterday. Good thing since the old one had some scratches. Still need to sort out the bent wiper arm, broken cowl/windshield base cover and paintwork. Most probably going to fully respray the car, just waiting to see what will happen with the insurance company claim first.

In other news, I did a lucky purchase on a NB KGW panel. Came attached to a JDM NB RS cluster for a grand total of 30GBP!!

Not sure I am too fond of the stainless look against my beige gauges, will try this on and see. If anyone is interested in swapping with a black one, please get in contact.
