    Street Friendly Track Toy

I bought my first Miata a few months ago. Its been an absolute blast so far. My other car is a 360 HP GTI which is FWD, heavier and has flappy paddles. I wanted a car that was a complete contrast and the Miata has been amazing. RWD, incredible handling, low center of gravity and a really connected feeling to both the car and the road.

I'm setting this up for a mix of local driving and track use. Because I live close to work and don't need to make long commutes I'm planning for a fairly aggressive street setup.

My Miata is a 2002 LS. So far I've done the foamectomy, and replaced the door handle with a strap, both of which were sorely needed as I'm 6'3". I've also ordered a 330mm Nardi deep corn wheel and Ultrashield rally sport seat which hopefully will make the car truly comfortable.

Other things I've done over the past week are put on some 15x9 Racing Storm wheels with Ventus R-S3 tires. The car came with Stance coilovers and with a little tuning of the damping rates these are settling in great.

Sent the hard top off to Maaco today to get it matched to the body, and changed oil and spark plugs which has made a big difference.

Nice, I have a front wheel drive VW myself it's actually my commute car. I gotta say, even though it's a front wheel drive it can still handle well in tight corners. Nice job on the car, 126whp should give you a nice kick in the upper RPM's. Is your car tuned for 91 octane?

Yeah, it's tuned for 91. I think it could get another 3 WHP or so running on 93. I'll be heading back to the dyno in August now that I've got headers in. With luck they'll take the car close to 130.

Going to delete the VTCS when I have some time. That's supposed to be good for another 5-7 up top.

^ 130whp would be very nice. I was saving up for boost, but recently I've been getting pumped up on all motor power. I already have bolt ons in my storage including standalone ECU, but not sure If I'm going to take that route. I'm pretty sure you can hit 140whp if you had cams and a built head. I was able to hit 138whp on a 1.6 with a built head and bolt-ons tuned to 91 octane. You really have to wind up the motor though. Keep up the good work, post up some engine pics if you can.

I was also thinking about forced induction. Emilio from 949racing has reported 260 WHP with the rotrex supercharger kit that track dog racing is working on, when coupled with an ECU and injectors, which means Lambo power to weight ratio for around $4000. It's pretty tempting.

That said I've also gotten hooked on the NA thing. I track the car every month and having a reliable setup is fantastic. I just need a little more in the straights so the Corvettes pull away less. Then I can catch them in the corners.

The new kit from track dog racing is CARB legal. Still under development though
