    Black Betty (Bamalam)

I've owned this car for a year and a half now, and in that time it's changed a lot. This is my third Miata and will be the one I keep for good.

Black Betty has a history for me.
This was my grandparent's car. I learned manual transmission on their property up in Arkansas at the age of 11 in this car, and it's the reason why I got into Miatas and got one of my own when I had the chance.

My grandmother bought it new in 94, spec-ed with manual steering, torsen, and put the roll bar in. They had to sell their property in Arkansas and a lot of things were being sold at auction or given to family and friends. They know how much I love the car and told me to fly up and get it.

Upon arriving, this is how she looked.

That's 19 years of red clay from the backroad to their farm on that engine bay...overall not bad though, considering it hadn't been driven in a few years other than an occasional startup to make sure it was still running.

I started cleaning her up asap. Spent 5 hours on the interior before driving her 1200 miles back to St. Pete, FL.

    After a bit of cleaning.

Then, not 2 days into having the car, I was sitting at a red light leaving the electronic weekly I run locally...and my buddy (also leaving) was messing with his stereo and rear ended me.

I think the contrast of the taillights really works with black.
