In preparation for the coming of my second kid, I gutted my car in the hope of doing some sound deadening and other little things while on leave. Drove around with an empty tub and only my driver's seat. Car definitely felt peppier. Most of the weight loss was from the passenger seat and the complete tool set I carried in my trunk. Very little happened. But now a few months later...I finally have an interior again.

Didn't get the before picture because, whatever.

Started off with some noico 80. Just enough to make the clangs into thuds. Had my little helper. Pretty damned good for my 2 year old. Last time we did this, she was trying to drop much needed bolts into holes where there was no return. You might spy the target special pillows in the tunnels.

Then came the reflectix for some heat insulation.

    20190224_131223.jpg

Then the newer carpet. Much cleaner than before, and I finally cut it right so it tucked in nicely.

    20190224_134758.jpg

Still trying to decide whether or not to put the center console back in. I miss my coffee holder. But I'm contemplating a custom shorty and bare center. It's just so nice to see it clean.

I like the naked look of the transmission tunnel

Indeed. I'd need something like cutting away the airbag disable and cig lighter area. And mold something backward, etc. I never liked the chopped off or truncated look.

Huh. That actually doesn't look half bad. I do like how it's all once piece of sorts. How would I go about buying that?

Edit: Also - finally drove my car today. Wow...it's a completely different car. I still hear the lowest bassy frequencies from the exhaust, but it's a distant note from far behind me. The engine noise is pretty much only coming from the front - I don't mind. Now it's the "quieter" noises that have come out and become more obvious...wind... clutch/transmission/heatshield vibrations. I mean, these were pretty much the sounds I would hear while wearing earplugs. Either way...LOVING it. Guess I'm getting older.

It's like the volume was reduced all around, and almost all the harshness of ANY sound has disappeared.

Best thing...it's actually (finally) louder when I roll my windows down.

In preparation for new stripes...debadge begins. Took off the emblems. Holes holes everywhere. Then tried some googone to some progress. Then finished it all up with a bunch of meguire's cleaner wax and elbow grease. Not too shabby. Next is to fill the holes with some epoxy and smooth it out.

I've seen nb1s without badges and loved how clean it looked. Granted, I might put the front one back on after the stripes go on since contrast...but so far, I like the smoothness

It's a long time coming...but it was time to address the cloudy yellowish headlights. Picked up the 3M kit that needed a drill. Got too excited and forgot to take a pic before starting with the first disc. Needless to say...I was doubtful and worried.

No masking tape...so I used packaging tape. #resourcefulidiot

    But it worked out well.

Confidence inspired. Now the passenger side.

Lost some clarity after a few coats of Duplicolor gloss clear...

    20190310_142317.jpg

A few more coats got me most of the clarity back. Still leaps and bounds better than previously.

Mmmmm clarity. Damn...night time headlight clarity is nice to have once again.

    20190310_143547.jpg

Next is a good wash and wax. Followed by new stripes. Need to reattach the lip and get it refinished as well.

It begins. Didn't have enough time to finish it - because - life. We'll see how the next few weeks progress. Also, found a bottle of meguire's cleaner wax sitting around. It does some wonders to my tired paint. Would be really good to get it out for a detail sometime, but alas...life.

Finally had a chance to get the car out for some pictures. Mmmmm clean headlights, and new stripes.

Was going for it to look good at 5' away... life and time made it look good at 15' away. Good enough for me for now

    Slow...and slow...and steady.

    Center console progress...

Open --> cardboard --> cut sheet --> the bend is in

    console.jpg

It's nice when you kept all the moving boxes...measure cut measure cut measure cut and I'm left with this...

    20190511_114311.jpg

Next to find some backing material to get a carpet version put in. There is...so much cardboard in my car right now.
